A pair of UFC heavyweights in need of a victory will meet in the Octagon this coming July when Dave ‘Pee-Wee’ Herman (21-5) takes on former Strikeforce fighter Shane del Rosario (11-2) at UFC 162.
The promotion confirmed the two as opponents on Thursday afternoon on Twitter (@UFC) along with a few other matches today.
UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman is expected to take place on July 6, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will see UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva defend his title versus No. 1 contender Chris Weidman.
Herman had a suspension lifted after completing treatment for marijuana use after testing positive for the substance last October following a loss at UFC 153. ‘Pee-Wee’ was submitted by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at the Brazilian event in the second round. That loss was Herman’s third in a row following a knockout by Roy Nelson at UFC 146 and a TKO stoppage by Stefan Struve at UFC on FUEL TV 1.
Del Rosario went undefeated until joining the UFC picking up eleven straight wins, but in has yet to pick up a victory inside the Octagon in two appearances. His last bout saw him suffer a second round KO at the hands of Pat Barry last December at the TUF 16 Finale and a TKO finish versus Stipe Miocic at UFC 146. His last win came in February 2011 versus Lavar Johnson.
