The Manitoba Combative Sports Commission on Monday issued medical suspensions to all 22 fighters who competed during last Saturday night’s UFC 161 in Winnipeg.

Fifteen of the athletes who took part in the event will face mandatory, short terms of just 14 days as a medical precaution, while seven others will require the clearance of a doctor before resuming their fight careers.

Among those in the latter camp was main-event winner Rashad Evans, who won a split-decision over Dan Henderson to snap a two-fight losing streak.

Generally, medical clearance is needed to ensure an athlete has not broken a bone or sustained another injury that would put him at risk of further problems in a future fight. Commissions typically divulge the cause for indefinite suspensions, however the Manitoba commission did not offer any specifics in releasing the information to the media.
