While Hector Lombard still wants to fight Tyron Woodley, he has recently come to terms with the idea that the fight just might not happen any time soon.
So, who does the newly-nicknamed “Showeather” want to fight now?
Lombard told MMAFighting.com on Tuesday that he was interested in moving back up to middleweight to fight Gegard Mousasi.
“I want to beat him up,” he said.
Mousasi defeated Lombard via unanimous decision at PRIDE Bushido 13 in Dec. 2006.
Lombard, the former Bellator middleweight champion, has won two in a row since dropping down to 170 pounds, while Mousasi just lost to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza last Friday in a middleweight bout, so there’s a chance the UFC brass won’t like that idea. If not, Lombard said he would like to fight Matt Brown in December or the winner of the Oct. 4 bout between Rory MacDonald vs. Tarec Saffiedine.
The Cuban-Australian, who was recently cleared to train after suffering from a herniated disc, had his heart set on fighting in Sydney on Nov. 8, but there does not appear to be any good options for him right now, especially with Brown nursing a hand injury.
