A showdown between light heavyweight legends could be in the works for April.
Per MMAFighting.com, the UFC is targeting a bout between former champions “Suga” Rashad Evans and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for UFC on FOX 19 which is scheduled for April 16, 2016.
A location and venue for the event has yet to be determined.
Evans recently returned from a near two year layoff due to injury, dropping a lackluster decision to Ryan Bader at UFC 192 last October. Prior to that fight, “Suga” had won two straight over Dan Henderson at UFC 161 and Chael Sonnen at UFC 167.
After dropping two straight bouts to Henderson and Ovince Saint Preux, the Brazilian legend “Shogun” recently bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 190 last August.
Evans and Rua were actually supposed to square off back in 2011 for “Shogun’s” then held light heavyweight strap, but “Suga” was forced out of the fight with a knee injury. A clash between the two never materialized again up until this point.
The UFC also announced yesterday (January 26, 2016) that top lightweights Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov and Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson will face off on this card.
