Wilson Reis wants to get back in the Octagon sooner rather than later after his win over Dustin Ortiz at UFC on Fox 18, and he wants to do it against anybody above him in the rankings.
Wilson Reis always felt like he was one of the top fighters at flyweight, but with his latest win over Dustin Ortiz last Saturday, he believes he finally was able to prove it to himself. As he told Combate, he is very pleased with his performance.
“I don’t need to prove anything to anybody, but I proved to myself I deserve to be among the best flyweights. I focused on stopping Dustin Ortiz, because he’s too fast. I tried to cut angles to make him walk backwards and wear himself out and that’s what he did the whole time. I’m satisfied, I’m glad I got it right. The feedback was great. I fought a wrestler and took him down nine times.”
Now officially a Top 10 fighter, ranked at number nine, Reis wants to get back in the cage as soon as possible and has plenty of names he feels that could make a good challenge for him.
“The first thing I checked in the morning was the UFC rankings. I went from number 12 to 9. That’s all I wanted. I hope I can fight someone who’s above me. I’m not injured, I’m ready to fight soon. I want to fight in Brazil in May. I think it makes sense to fight the winner of Joseph Benavidez vs. Zach Makovsky, but it could be John Moraga or Kyoji Horiguchi. Whoever is available.”
Wilson Reis defeated Dustin Ortiz by unanimous decision in the preliminary portion of UFC on Fox 18, on January 30.
