Jake Matthews defeated Johnny Case last night (Sat. March 19, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 85 in Brisbane, Australia. in a pivotal bout between two top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) prospects that turned out to be the “Fight of the Night.

And it was an exciting one (full recap here).

Matthews pulled off a heck of a comeback, forcing Case to tap to a rear-naked choke in the closing seconds of the final round.

Despite getting rocked late in round one, Matthews stole the frame by picking and landing his shots with more frequency. In round two, Mathews hurt Case with a brutal body kick, and proceeded to try a triangle choke which was defended well by case.

After gaining top position, Johnny went on to deliver some ground-and-pound to no avail, as Matthews weathered the mini storm and proceeded to deliver another pain-inducing body kick.

In the third round, Jake used his striking to keep the bout in the palm of his hand. And after eventually taking the bout to the ground and failing to secure his first attempt, Jake eventually locked in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.

Despite having his 12-fight win streak snapped, Case doesn’t have anything to hang his head low over. As for Matthews, his ascension up the 155-pound ladder continues after his latest victory.
