Longtime UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has dominated all men who he has stepped into the Octagon with at 135-pounds, so how do you think he’d fare against the champion one weight class above him in featherweight title-holder Conor McGregor?
Cruz was recently asked via a fan question on Twitter during his time at the FOX Sports analyst desk post-UFC 204 if McGregor would be the man he’d fight first in a potential move up in weight, and here is what ‘The Dominator’ had to say:
“Look, everybody is calling out McGregor so I don’t wanna be another guy cause everybody wants that fight, but the thing is McGregor is picking his own fights. So thats not up to me. Thats not up to the UFC, thats up to McGregor. Now I know as much as McGregor, and more about this sport than anybody, and it seems that the only way to beat McGregor is with your mind.
“I know I can do that. I know I can also technically beat him, and I know that at 145-pounds I’m extremely fast and hard to deal with. I can beat McGregor, absolutely. And I would love to fight him at 145-pounds, or 155 if he wins the title I don’t care I’m the champion, and I my style is built for moving up in weight class cause I don’t take damage.”
With only a ten pound weight difference between the two men’s championship weight a match-up between Cruz and McGregor is certainly an intriguing one, and an even more intriguing bout would be to see ‘The Dominator’ compete at 155-pounds as well.
