A potential USADA violation has bumped Guido Cannetti off of next week’s TUF Latin America 3 Finale card.
It’s been a busy week for USADA news.
Following the removal of Lyman Good from UFC 205, as well as the subsequent two-year suspension of Adam Hunter for testing positive for multiple banned substances, we have ourselves another UFC fighter who as been removed from an upcoming card due to a potential anti-doping violation. UFC bantamweight Guido Cannetti informed fans on his Instagram page that he’s been removed from the Saturday, November 5th TUF Latin America 3 Finale. MMA Fighting has the translation from Spanish to English:
“Today, I was informed that I won’t be fighting because there was a prohibited substance in the analysis that I was given. I swear that I didn’t take anything with a banned substance. I’m very sad for not being able to fight. To this day, I’m training and I gave my best in each training session and I was away from my family for nothing. I spent money that I didn’t have to train myself and now I don’t have a fight. I swear over my family that I didn’t take any prohibited substance. The only thing that could possibly be is a supplement of the ones I took that has something that didn’t say it has. I hope that this gets resolved quick because I’m very sad for all the sacrifices I made for this fight.”
Cannetti (7-2) hasn’t fought since beating Hugo Viana by unanimous decision at last year’s UFC 190. The 36-year-old native of Argentina was part of the TUF Latin America season 1 cast, losing controversially to Marco Beltran by decision, before returning to the show as an injury replacement, only to be KO’d in the semifinals by Alejandro Perez. Cannetti lost his UFC debut to Henry Briones by 1st round submission at UFC 180. He was scheduled to rematch Beltran on the preliminary card of the TUF Latin America 3 Finale, but now Beltran’s status on the card may be in jeopardy following the removal of Cannetti.
MMA Fighting reported that Cannetti’s positive test stemmed from an October 15th out-of-competition sample, although as is standard USADA procedure, it is not known what Cannetti tested positive for.
TUF Latin America 3 Finale (AKA UFC Fight Night 98) is headlined by a big lightweight contender matchup between Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson. The night’s main card airs live from Mexico City, Mexico on Fox Sports 1, beginning at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.
