What’s Hot:

There’s nothing worse than fighting for a hard 25 minutes only to have the contest end up in a draw … especially in a title fight. Woodley and Thompson will have the opportunity once more to prove who is the best 170-pound fighter on the planet, but with the added pressure of hoping to get a clear-cut winner this time around, this fight could be more entertaining than the first and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a finish; or at the very least, two combatants trying like hell to get it.

What’s Not:

For Rashad Evans’ Middleweight debut, I expected the former Light Heavyweight champion to get a more established name and veteran of the sport. Instead, he was matched up against Daniel Kelly. Granted, he has six fights inside the Octagon, but he isn’t the biggest name out there despite being 5-1 inside the eight-walled cage. And I get it, Evans, who has two straight losses, doesn’t exactly deserve a “big name” foe, but pitting him against someone more well-known would’ve been nice.

Original Card vs. Actual Card:

Just when we thought the card hadn’t suffered a lot of shake ups, Khabib Nurmagomedov was forced out of his much-anticipated interim Lightweight title fight against Tony Ferguson after “The Eagle” fell ill the morning of weigh-ins (full story here). This now marks the third time a fight between “El Cucuy” and Khabib has fallen apart, all while delivering a huge blow to the much-anticipated PPV card. As a result, Lando Vannata vs. David Teymur has been promoted to the co-main event. Another noticeable bout cancelation was was Todd Duffee vs. Mark Godbeer, as Duffee bowed out of the event for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Daniel Spitz (5-0).

Injuries:

Igor Pokrajac was bounced from his fight against Ed Herman with an injury and was replaced by Gadzhimurad Antigulov. Herman, though, suffered an injury of his own and was ultimately bounced from the event.

New Blood:

Spitz got his chance to shine on the biggest stage of them all after Duffee was forced out of the event, as he will face Godbeer in a Heavyweight showdown. Andre Soukhamthath will also look to shine in his Octagon debut when he takes on Albert Morales. Cynthia Calvillo will also be making her first UFC appearance as she takes on Amanda Cooper in a women’s Strawweight bout.

How The “Prelims” Look:

There’s nothing too fancy about the “Prelims,” however, one of the most intriguing match ups takes places on Fight Pass, as two undefeated 205-pound prospects Tyson Pedro and Paul Craig will duke it out for the right to remain perfect. Also, Mirsad Bektic will look to remain undefeated when he puts his perfect (11-0) record on the line against Darren Elkins in what is sure to be an entertaining Featherweight scrap.

Interest Level: 7/10

This was a pretty good card overall, but losing Khabib vs. Ferguson was a huge blow. Nevertheless, Woodley will have the chance to win some fans, back up all of his talk if he can get a clear win over Thompson. It may even set himself up for a “big-money” bout against the returning Georges St-Pierre.

Lost in the shuffle is Heavyweight showdown between Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem. the fight has been getting no love from the promotion’s PR machine, probably because of this. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting big-man throw down that could see someone go to sleep early.

Plus, Lando Vannata has quickly become a fan-favorite and must-see TV, as the Jackson-Winkeljohn-trained fighter has wowed in his first two outings inside the cage, almost upsetting Tony Ferguson in his last-second debut, while knocking out John Makdessi via wheel kick at UFC 206. He’ll look to stop a streaking David Teymur in the co- main event.
