Before Glover Teixeira fights Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC Stockholm main event, watch the Brazilian stop Ryan Bader back in 2013.
Glover Teixeira is set to fight fellow light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC Stockholm main event on Sunday, May 28th, but let’s rewind to four years ago for what proved to be the biggest win of his UFC career.
On September 4th, 2013, Glover Teixeira fought Ryan Bader in the UFC Fight Night 28 main event in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Bader had Teixeira hurt with a left hand, but his attempt to finish the fight backfired in a big way, as Glover cracked him with a big shot of his own and scored a knockdown. The Brazilian sealed the deal with big ground-and-pound for the dramatic victory.
Teixeira wound up with the title shot against Jon Jones, which he obviously would lose by unanimous decision. You can watch all of Teixeira-Bader at the top of the page.
Here’s Brent Brookhouse’s play-by-play:
Glover Teixeira vs. Ryan Bader – Round 1 – Bader with a jab and then a shot that he abandons and throws a punch. Left hand by Bader hurt Glover a bit. Bader with a guillotine that he can’t finish. They’re back to standing and now Bader almost gets caught in a guillotine. Uppercut by Bader, big right by GLover. Bader lands a hard shot and Glover is down. Glover back up, Bader tries to unload and now Glover counters and drops Bader and follows up with huge shots and it’s over. Glover Teixeira wins by TKO (punches), round 1.
