UFC 215’s Henry Cejudo: ‘I’m the one the beat Demetrious Johnson’

After his stunning win over Wilson Reis, Henry Cejudo believes he has what it takes to dethrone Demetrious Johnson.

Former flyweight title challenger Henry Cejudo looked phenomenal at UFC 215, outclassing top 5 contender Wilson Reis and earning his first stoppage win in over four years.

The Olympic gold medalist put on a striking clinic against Reis and looked to be a completely different fighter to the one that fought 125-pound champion Demetrious Johnson in 2016.

Cejudo attacked Reis with a range of attacks and picked up the knock out in the second round, earning his first win since 2015.

Fresh off the win, Cejudo told reporters at the post-fight press conference that he would like to rematch ‘Mighty Mouse’ straight away, although he still has a few technical chinks to iron out.

“Emotionally, I do want to fight him right away,” Cejudo told the media at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, per MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee. “Technically, I might even be ready for this guy. I don’t just want to fight Demetrious, I want to beat him and he’s been on my mind since he beat me. I’m a competitor, for me to get stopped in front of 20,000 people, that s**t hurts and I think about it a lot.

“There’s a reason why he’s the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world and that’s who I have to beat; not just fight, beat.”

Cejudo, 30, was outclassed and finished by Johnson in the first round of their championship tilt at UFC 197 but still believes he has what it takes to dethrone the long-reigning champ.

“I’m the one. I know I’m the one,” he said said. “I have the style, I have the wrestling. I know I’m the one to beat Demetrious Johnson.”

Cejudo is likely to fight 24-year-old Sergio Pettis while ‘DJ’ defends his title against Ray Borg, who was scheduled to fight Johnson last night but pulled out at the last minute due to a viral infection. Cejudo is currently ranked as the No. 2 flyweight contender in the world.
