Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was on hand to support teammate and ex-UFC fighter Shayna Baszler in the “Mae Young Classic,” a women’s tournament designed to find the next big star in pro wrestling.
While the “Queen of Spades” fell short of becoming tourney champ, she did draw praise from the “Rowdy” one, who may be headed to WWE later this year after a long courting process from the gang at WWE.
But that’s a story for another day.
“You know what? I don’t want to come to Shayna’s event on Shayna’s night and talk about myself,” Rousey told ESPN.. “I just want to keep tonight all about her. And go, Shayna Baszler.”
Fortunately nobody got their ass whooped backstage.
The Olympian is no stranger to professional wrestling, having a run-in with WWE figurehead Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 31 back in 2015 (more on that here). After her one-off, McMahon left the door open for a potential return.
Rousey hasn’t been seen since her technical knockout loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 back in December, but is still making headlines thanks to her recent wedding to longtime boyfriend Travis Browne.
I guess that “major news” will have to wait … for now.
