Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (26-8-2, 1NC) feels the UFC has made a mistake by ranking opponent Evan Dunham ahead of him. When compared to Dunham he feels that he’s “the lightweight everyone worries about.”
Guillard will meet Dunham in the main event of this Saturday’s UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event in Fort Hood near Killeen, Texas. It’s the first time for Dunham but it will be Guillard’s third, and the fighter feels the experience he has gained from his 36 career outweighs the 12 matches his opponent brings with him.
“The Young Assassin” is on a three fight win streak and has gone 6-1 in his last seven fights. His last octagon appearance was against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 119 in September where he earned a split decision at the Indianapolis event.
Speaking to Sherdog.com, Guillard talked about his opponent and the lightweight division.
“Him being ranked above me, I kind of shy away from that. I don’t feel he [should be] ranked above me. I paid my dues in the UFC. He’s just coming into the UFC. He had a couple of tough fights, but I’ve been in the game of MMA for 15 years. … He hasn’t fought anybody like me. I feel I’m the [lightweight] everybody worries about. I think when these guys get phone calls from Joe Silva or Dana [White] and they say, ‘Hey, we want you to fight Melvin Guillard,’ I think guys panic. I honestly think guys fear fighting me because I’m so athletic and they don’t know what’s going to happen. If you look at all my fights, none of them are the same. I explode from anywhere. It’s hard to train for a guy like me. If he’s banking all his money on he’s going to submit me, then it’s going to be a long night for Evan Dunham.”
