Remember when UFC fighter Justine Kish soiled her shorts during a loss to Felice Herrig back in June?
Well, apparently that’s still a thing seven months later, as UFC women’s flyweight prospect Ji Yeon Kim has had to avoid awkward conversations leading into her bout with Kish later this evening (Sat., Jan. 27, 2018) at UFC on FOX 27 from Charlotte, North Carolina.
“When I got the offer to fight Justine Kish, everyone was talking about her accident in the cage,” Kim told MMA Today‘s John Hyon Ko (in association with Rank5). “Then when it was finalized, everyone I know was telling me to make her shit her pants again. Every time I met someone and start talking about the fight, they kept saying that to me.”
“However, I have not said to anyone that I would do that,” Kim continued. “Justine should be respected for her focus and determination. I wonder what I would do in that situation but it is something I don’t want to know. I respect her performance but I am as strong mentally as her.
“Whenever someone brings up Kish, I just want to immediately fight her. Her shitting her pants is not important to me.”
While it’s crazy that Kim has to answer questions about Kish’s pooping incident from last year, it isn’t quite as crazy as this deranged lunatic who bought the actual shorts. Kim played this situation off pretty well considering Kish’s accident is easy target practice for any fighter looking to talk trash.
Instead, the 28-year-old South Korean prospect is taking the high road, keeping her eye on the prize, and focusing all of her attention on defeating Kish and getting over her debut loss to Lucie Pudilova this past June.
“Justine Kish is moving up in weight and I am dropping down so I should have the advantage,” said Kim. “Watching her fights, she looks to be strong for the strawweight division. She hasn’t had any problems so far but she will not be able to match my strength in the cage.
“By watching film on Justine Kish, she seems like a very well rounded fighter. In my training, I focused more on what I am good at which is striking. Since she is a decent grappler, I am mixing in work on the ground with my striking preparations.”
Kim should have her hands full this weekend at UFC on FOX 27, especially considering Herrig was the first woman to defeat Kish inside of the cage.
