Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Darren Till, who fights Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight championship in the headliner of UFC 228 on September 8, said with apparent sincerity that he doesn’t care about his family or daughter. His daughter, who lives in Brazil, hasn’t seen him in a year, his current girlfriend is seven months pregnant. Darren Till says he doesn’t care, he just cares about getting the belt and being the greatest.

Transcript via MiddleEasy.com:

“I’ve got a girlfriend who’s nearly seven months pregnant. I don’t really care. I’ve got a daughter in Brazil right now who I haven’t seen for one year. I don’t really care. I just care about legacy and greatness. That’s what I’m in this for.”

There is a certain level of selfishness that just comes with the territory for elite fighters and athletes, but this goes beyond that. Till, if we can take his comments seriously, doesn’t see his family as motivation and a source of stability the way other fighters do. Everyone from Cody Garbrandt to TJ Dillashaw to Daniel Cormier to Robert Whittaker… hell, even Jon Jones is proud of his family and kids. He doesn’t consider them at all. I can’t think of any other fighter who would openly admit to being that bad of a father. At 25, Darren Till is well on his way towards being the greatest… the greatest deadbeat dad in the sport of MMA.

This must be an amazing feeling for Marlon Vera, though it also seems like he shouldn’t have to literally fight for the chance to get his daughter healthcare.
