Featherweight fighter Rani Yahya (16-6) earned a convincing unanimous decision win over former WEC champ Mike Brown last weekend at the UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event. Brown was a last minute replacement for an injured Chan Sung Jung (aka the Korean Zombie) who hurt himself training just a few weeks before the fight.
Yahya doesn’t want to waste all of that time he spent training for Jung to go to waste, so he’d like to face the “Korean Zombie” in his next fight once Jung has recovered from his injury.
Yahya’s coach Ataíde Jr. spoke to Tatame.com about his fighters win over Brown and his interest in meeting Jung for his next fight.
“We have planned to fight the Korean, but the boy did a pretty good job on that fight. He knew Mike could catch him so he used his Jiu-Jitsu, which is his origin, and managed to block him. I thought it was a great fight. Rani is on the right track, he’s a professional. He’s a UFC fighter, not a Jiu-Jitsu athlete”, said, revealing that the “Korean Zombie. He was talking to Joe Silva and I think he’s on the mood for the Korean.”
The win in his UFC debut over Brown, ended a two-fight losing skid for Yahya who was probably looking at being cut by the promotion with a loss. He last fought against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 48 in April losing a unanimous decision to the Japanese fighter.
