Yair Rodriguez was forced to bow out of his scheduled Featherweight showdown against Zabit Magomedsharipov, which was set to go down last Saturday night (Sept. 8, 2018) in Dallas, Texas, after suffering an injury a few weeks out from the fight.
After Zabit blitzed right through late replacement Brandon Davis with a spectacular submission victory (see it), “ZaBeast” took the opportunity to call for a showdown against either Chad Mendes or Jose Aldo.
“El Pantera” isn’t having it.
Taking to Twitter, Rodriguez congratulated Zabit on a spectacular performance, but also reminded him that they have unfinished business.
Miss the feeling of being able to train, should be cleared soon. congratulations ??@zabit_mma? on an amazing performance. Hopefully your business with ?@chadmendes? can wait so we can settle ours. pic.twitter.com/aT8nQEyFfo

Rodriguez hasn’t competed since losing to Frankie Edgar at UFC 211 back in May of 2017. Prior to that, “El Pantera” had won all six of his UFC fights, earning the reputation as one of the most exciting and entertaining up-and-coming prospects.
Zabit, meanwhile, hasn’t lost since 2013 and has been perfect (4-0) inside the Octagon. He, too, has built a reputation of “must see T.V.,” as evidenced by his submission win in Dallas, Texas.
While Mendes and Aldo would be good bout for Zabit, perhaps having him and Yair settle their business, first, is more fitting for the time being.
Anyone (dis) agree?
