A last minute injury forced Tyler Combs to withdraw from his upcoming fight with Jorge Gurgel (13-7) this Saturday as part of the Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson event in Columbus, Ohio.
Now MMAFighting.com is reporting that local fighter Billy Vaughan (9-6) has agreed to step in at the last minute as part of the shows preliminary card.
Vaughan has fought for a number of Ohio based promotions is 3-1 in his last four fights and enters the bout with Gurgel on a loss. He was submitted in the first round last December at a NAAFS – Night of Champions 2010 show.
Gurgel has lost his last two bouts and is 1-4 in his last five. The former UFC fighter joined Strikeforce after a seven fight stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship going 3-4 with the promotion. Under the Strikeforce banner, Gurgel earned a uannimous decision over Conor Heun at a Challengers event in June 2009, lost to Billy Evangelista at another Challengers show in November that same year, and lost his last fight to KJ Noons by knockout at the Strikeforce: Houston event in August of last year.
The Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson event takes place on March 5 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio and features two title bouts. Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante puts his belt on the line against former PRIDE champ Dan Henderson. While women’s welterweight champ Marloes Coenen faces Liz Carmouche for her title on the live Showtime broadcast.
