Wilder Announces Rematch With Fury

After nearly a decade of dull and plodding heavyweight boxing action, things have really heated up again. Sitting at the top of an exciting heap of heavyweights are Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, but business interests are keeping them from fighting at the moment. There are still some other interesting matches for both though, including a rematch between Wilder and Tyson Fury.

The two scrapped back in December of 2018 with the fight ending a split draw – Tyson outboxed Wilder for the majority of the bout only to get absolutely flattened late into the fight. Somehow, somehow, Fury got back up and kept fighting. And while many believed he should have still won the decision, the near knockout from Wilder made many fans feel like it wasn’t a complete robbery.

The two were supposed to do an immediate rematch, but once again it looked like business would get in the way with Fury signing a deal with Top Rank while Wilder is under contract with PBC. But look at this: it sounds like a deal has been reached that will make all parties happy. Deontay Wilder shared the news on his socials.

So here’s what we know: no locked in date has been set, but ‘early 2020’ is the goal. The event will be a joint PPV between Top Rank and PBC — the first since Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

Wilder is coming off yet another highlight reel knockout of Dominic Breazeale just last week, and has already confirmed he’d rematch Luiz Ortiz sometime later this year. As for Tyson Fury, he’s set to face Tom Schwarz in his ESPN debut, a fight generally no one is interested in. He’ll fight again in September against a TBD opponent, so there is a decent amount of risk all this could fall apart.

Or not. Even if one or the other loses, interest in Wilder-Fury 2 would be high. So with the contracts signed as Wilder has said, let’s hope everything works out.
