Women’s flyweight contender Jessica Eye addresses her fans after being knocked out at UFC 238.
The UFC 238 co-main event saw one of the most devastating knockouts of 2019, as women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko put Jessica Eye away with a brutal head kick early in round two. It was the first knockout win of Shevchenko’s UFC career and the first knockout defeat of Eye’s MMA career.
Reactions of amazement and excitement turned to concern when Eye remained motionless on the canvas for several minutes. Eventually, Eye did regain consciousness, after which she could be heard telling the medical team that she did not know what happened. For obvious reasons, Eye was transported to hospital for a possible head injury.
On Sunday, Eye released a statement on Twitter firstly congratulating Shevchenko on the win, then addressing her supporters and those concerned about her well-being.
Congratulations @BulletValentina that was incredible head kick. I am thankful for the chance to share the cage with you .

To my true supporters : thank you so much for all you do for me . I am ok and thank you for caring about me . I had a great camp and felt the best I have ever. I made some mistakes that cost me dearly. This fight game can be rough at times but it’s what I signed up for.

The defeat to Shevchenko was Eye’s first loss in the UFC women’s flyweight division, having won her previous three bouts to earn a title shot.
