Lima earned the MFC belt last fall at MFC 27 when he submitted opponent Jesse Juarez during the live HDNet broadcast, earning his fourth straight victory and the seventeenth win of his career.

In a recent interview Lima spoke about defending his belt against Martin and his expectations for the bout.

“Everybody says you’re not the champion until you defend your belt so I’m looking at it that way. He loves to strike so I have a good opportunity to show my striking as well. He’s a good striker and I like to fight guys with his style. I’m so looking forward to this fight. I’m expecting a great matchup. I’m going to do everything to keep my belt. I’m training very hard and I’ll be ready come fight night. A win like that means everything to me right now,” said Lima. “I’m very happy to fight the caliber of fighter like him. He’s been fighting a lot of top-ranked fighters out there so it’s going to be great for me beating a guy like that.”

Douglas will be joined by his younger brother Dhiego Lima (4-0) at the event, who is set to meet Josh Taveirne (2-1) on the preliminary card. The brothers both fought on the MFC 27 card last November, and each walked away the victor. Can they make it two for two again next month?

MFC 29: Conquer takes place on April 8 from The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The event also features a light heavyweight title bout between champ Ryan Jimmo and Emanuel Newton, as well as the promotional debut of lightweights Marcus Davis and Hermes Franca. Davis meets Curtis Demarce, while Franca faces off with Drew Fickett on the card.
