Fresh off her win over Montana de la Rosa at UFC Fight Night 154 just last week (recap), Andrea Lee already has her next fight booked. According to MMA Junkie, “KGB” will face Joanne Calderwood at the upcoming UFC 242 pay-per-view (PPV) event on September 6, 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
Lee’s win over Montana was her seventh in a row, including winning her first three tests inside the Octagon. Matching her up against Calderwood seems a bit odd, as “JoJo” is coming off a loss to Katlyn Chookigan at UFC 238, bringing her record to 2-3 over her last five outings. That said, Joanna does hold a higher ranking over Lee, so it’s safe to say matchmakers were looking at that angle.
Still, it’s a good test for both fighters, especially Andrea, who will be facing the highest-ranked opponent so far in her UFC career. A win here can certainly catapult her into title contention. Meanwhile, Calderwood looks to get back into the win column by upsetting one of the fastest-rising stars in the women’s Flyweight division.
UFC 242 is set to be headlined by a Lightweight title fight that will see division champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defend his belt against top contender Dustin Poirier. In the co-main event, Curtis Blaydes will face fellow heavy-hitting big man Shamil Abdurakhimov.
