One of the champ champs is now ranked as one of the top five fighters in the world.
UFC 239 was a fairly unusual event, that had a ton of action in the middle but a very dull main event. Other than Jorge Masvidal’s huge knockout win over Ben Askren, not a lot happened that caused a ripple in the rankings. Champions defended, favorites won, and so on.
With that said, here’s a look at the changes coming out of one of the biggest shows of the year.
P4P – Amanda Nunes is up one to five, pushing Max Holloway down to six.
Heavyweight – No changes.
Light Heavyweight – Jan Blachowicz is up one to five, bumping Alexander Gustafsson down to six.
Middleweight – No changes.
Welterweight – Masvidal’s quick KO of Askren mixed things up. Gamebred is up one to three, bumping Rafael dos Anjos to four. Askren fell four spots from five to nine, which allowed four fighters – Darren Till, Stephen Thompson, Anthony Pettis, and Santiago Ponzinibbio – to all move up one each to five through eight. Demian Maia is up into a tie for 11 with Leon Edwards.
Lightweight – No changes.
Featherweight – Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens flip-flopped seven and eight. Renato Moicano and Josh Emmett did the same with nine and ten. Arnold Allen enters the rankings at 13 after a big win over Gilbert Melendez. Ricardo Lamas fell two spots to 15.
Bantamweight – With John Lineker out, there were some changes over the bottom half. Cory Stamann, Rob Font, and John Dodson are all up one to ten through 12. Song Yadong enters the rankings at 13 with his KO win over Alejandro Perez. Thomas Almeida is up one to 14. Ricky Simon makes his rankings debut ahead of a fight with Urijah Faber.
Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Bantamweight – Holly Holm’s KO loss saw her slip a spot to three. Ketlen Vieira is back up to two.
Women’s Flyweight – Roxy Modafferi drops back into sixth position on her own.
Women’s Strawweight – Alexa Grasso is in the top ten, bumping Cynthia Calvillo to 11. Cortney Casey is up one to 14. Yan Xiaonan enters the rankings at 15.
