“It’s a journeyman mentality. They can’t get the world title so you create some f—king weird s—t ass title.”
Earlier this week it was announced that UFC fan favourites Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal would square off for the ‘BMF’ (bad motherf—r) world title at the upcoming UFC 244 pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden.
The title bout has garnered mixed reactions from the MMA community, and top-five UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards believes both men should be fighting for the ‘journeyman’ title instead.
“Two men who can’t get the title,” Edwards laughed (h/t MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin). “It’s a journeyman mentality. They can’t get the world title so you create some f—king weird s—t ass title. It’s a journeyman mentality.”
Edwards has been calling for a grudge match with Masvidal ever since ‘Gamebred’ blasted him with a ‘three piece and a soda’ — in other words, a three-punch combination — backstage at UFC Fight Night London earlier this year. Masvidal, however, has expressed no interest in the bout. ‘Rocky’ has instead shifted his attention towards a title fight against Kamaru Usman, who has yet to defend his welterweight belt.
UFC 244: Masvidal vs. Diaz takes place later this year, November 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
