Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will make his second attempt at dropping to bantamweight when he collides with venerable 135-pound bruiser Pedro Munhoz at the promotion’s upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event on July 11.

That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.

Edgar (23-8-1) was originally scheduled to make his bantamweight debut back in January; however, “The Answer” stepped in on short notice to replace the injured Brian Ortega against Chan Sung Jung at UFC Busan last December, a featherweight fracas that ended in Edgar’s second straight loss at 145 pounds.

The submission-savvy Munhoz (18-4, 1 NC) is currently ranked No. 7 in the bantamweight division and should prove to be a stiff test for the debuting Edgar. “The Young Punisher” has won three of his last four, including his technical knockout win over Cody Garbrandt at UFC 235 roughly one year back.

The location for the upcoming UFC event on July 11 has yet to be determined, but “Fight Island” and Las Vegas are the likely frontrunners. Expect that official announcement sooner, rather than later.
