UFC Vegas 26 now has just nine fights with the cancellation of Amanda Ribas vs. Angela Hill.
UFC Vegas 26 has taken another hit just hours before the event takes place, as Amanda Ribas vs. Angela Hill has been cancelled due to Ribas testing positive for COVID-19.
MMA Fighting first reported the news of Ribas’ withdrawal. Ribas, whom at the moment is not suffering any symptoms of the virus, was scheduled to fight Hill in a strawweight bout that would have served as the opener of the main card.
Since the event was announced, Ribas vs. Hill marks the tenth fight removed from UFC Vegas 26. A flyweight fight between Ryan Benoit vs. Zarrukh Adashev was scratched from the card yesterday, as Benoit struggled to walk after missing weight by three pounds. Ben Rothwell vs. Philippe Lins was nixed after Lins was ill before the weigh-ins.
Earlier this week, Diego Sanchez was removed from his co-main event fight with Donald Cerrone and subsequently cut by the UFC. Cerrone will instead face Alex Morono on the card.
UFC Vegas 26, which will now go ahead with just nine fights, will be headlined by a women’s flyweight fight between strawweight contenders Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson.
