“This is MMA, it is unpredictable. We never know what is going to happen.”
Charles Oliveira was in attendance for this Saturday’s blockbuster UFC 264 main event between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor which saw ‘The Diamond’ close out the trilogy with a TKO win (doctor stoppage) after ‘The Notorious’ broke his leg in a freak accident at the end of the first round.
Poirier was handily winning the contest, with two judges scoring the first round 10-8 in his favor, but ‘Do Bronx’ was sad to see the fight end in such controversy and McGregor ironically being stretchered out of the octagon after weeks of promising to put his opponent in a body bag.
“It is sad. We don’t ever want to see a guy lose like that but it happens so congratulations to Dustin (Poirier).” Oliveira told UFC reporter Megan Olivi at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday (h/t BJPenn.com). “This is MMA it is unpredictable. We never know what is going to happen.”
Oliveira, the current UFC lightweight champion, originally predicted a TKO victory for McGregor but is excited at the prospect of finally getting to meet Poirier in the octagon.
“Actually this is a fight (Dustin Poirier) that I thought was going to happen. It was supposed to happen for a long time so if it happens… I am ready to go!” he said.
Oliveira, 31, will defend his lightweight title against Poirier at a TBA UFC event later this year.
