Alistair OvereemUFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem has been charged with one count of misdemeanor battery for an alleged incident inside the Wynn in Las Vegas just days after his TKO victory over former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar on Dec. 30.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Overeem is accused of pushing a woman in the face, “causing her to stagger back,” during an incident at Wynn Las Vegas at around 3 a.m. on Jan. 2.

If convicted of the misdemeanor battery charge, Overeem could face a maximum sentence of six months in the Clark County Detention Center and a fine of not more than $1,000.

Overeem has reportedly retained the services of attorney David Chesnoff — a famed Las Vegas lawyer known for representing everyone from celebrities to pro athletes to poker players to alleged organized crime member. Chesnoff told the Review-Journal that Overeem was not arrested, “but was summoned to court.”

“There are two sides to this story and we intend on vigorously defending this,” Chesnoff added. “Alistair maintains his innocence.”

The UFC has thus far declined to comment on the story, but Overeem’s win over Lesnar did set him up to face Junior dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight championship at an as of yet unannounced event. There’s no word on whether the court proceedings may delay that fight. Overeem is due in court in Las Vegas on Feb. 21.
