Aljamain Sterling has voiced his displeasure for Dan Miragliotta‘s “smirk” he has when he referees.

Miragliotta is one of the best referee in the sport, but Sterling has a problem with how he carries himself in the octagon. Miragliotta has refereed so many great fights, but has had some moments when fans has questioned his choices as well. Most notably after the second fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. The two embraced after months of trash talking each other, but Miragliotta decided to separate the two fighters during their long hug and conversation.

Miragliotta has never reffed a fight of Sterling, but he still has ill feelings toward Miragliotta.

Aljamain Sterling was talking about the ref in his latest video on his YouTube channel.

“If you look at (Miragliotta), when he’s refereeing he’s always got this, like, smirk that kind of seems, like, I don’t want to say condescending, but it’s almost, like, patronizing. I don’t know, I don’t know. I just feel like that smirk… I just don’t like he always has on this… Like, he’ll stop the fight and he’s kind of like ‘Yeah, buddy you got f****d up.” ) Sterling said on his YouTube video (Transcribed by MMANews)

‘Funk Master’ will be defending his bantamweight title against T.J. Dillashaw in his next fight at UFC 280. This is just Dillashaw’s second fight back since his long layoff, due to a PED suspension. The bout is scheduled to be the co-main event of the evening, in Abu Dhabi. UFC 280 is lined up to be one of the best fight cards we have seen in quite some time. The main card also features Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev, Sean Brady vs Belal Muhammad, Beneil Dariush vs Mateusz Gamrot, and Marina Rodriguez vs Amanda Lemos.

Do you agree with Sterling? Is Miragliotta’s smirk annoying?

Another Nick Diaz return is continuing to be teased, but it’s tough determining who it would possibly come against. Story-wise, a Conor McGregor match up is something both fanbases could easily get behind.

Diaz’s longtime coach, Cesar Gracie, recently shared that Diaz is aiming to return before 2022’s end. If he had it his way, Gracie would rekindle the Diaz versus McGregor rivalry with the eldest Diaz brother on the opposite side of McGregor in the Octagon. However, Nick’s willingness would likely depend on little brother Nate’s current fngs toward his own potential trilogy.

“Me and my personal point of view on that is that’s the fight I want to see,” Gracie told Submission Radio. “I would love to see Nick and McGregor fight, 100 percent because I think it would be insane, it would be great. I think they both have respect for each other, their skills and everything, I think it would be an amazing fight, I do. But, Nick is such a loyal guy to his brother, that he looks at that as Nate’s fight and he does not want to step on his toes. Now, if Nate turned to him and said, ‘Hey, look, I’m never going to fight that guy,’ type of thing then Nick would definitely do it. But I would like to see Nate fight him for sure.

“I think a trilogy makes sense and I think Nate leaving — then they’d have to pay him what he’s worth to come back — I think it’s a smart move,” he concluded.

Diaz last fought at UFC 266 in Sept. 2021, returning after six years out of action to rematch Robbie Lawler at Middleweight. The two first met in 2004 with Diaz winning via second round knockout. Unfortunately for Diaz, the result wasn’t the same all these years later, suffering a third round technical knockout defeat that left him winless since Oct. 2011 (watch highlights).

As for Nate, the final bout of his UFC contract is scheduled for UFC 279’s main event on Sept. 10, 2022, against Khamzat Chimaev.

Ruslan Bulguchev was hospitalized after being shot four times during the mass brawl.

Mixed martial arts coach Ruslan Bulguchev was among those injured during a mass brawl-turned-shooting that took place in St. Petersburg, Russia.

According to reports from Russian media, the incident took place on Aug. 8 in the suburbs around Ekaterininskaya Street, where approximately 30 people gathered to take part in a mass fight.

According to witnesses, the fight lasted for several minutes until one of the participants began firing gun shots. As the group dispersed and fled the scene, Bulguchev was found lying on the ground.

A portion of the incident was captured on video.

Bulguchev was hospitalized and diagnosed with “lacerations in the chest and thigh” after being shot four times. He was released from hospital shortly thereafter.

“It’s all right with me. Yes, they hurt, but everything is in order,” Bulguchev told reporters. “I’m on my way to work now, so it’s all good. I don’t know why they did such a fuss.”

Some reports have since claimed that several other MMA fighters were involved in the brawl, including Artyom Tarasov and Nikita Solonin. Tarasov has since claimed that he was present at the scene but did not take part in the brawl.

“You can even see on the video at the end where the guys are beating a man, I run over and say that you don’t need to beat one,” Tarasov said. “I am in a black jacket and yellow slippers.”

Marlon Vera’s upcoming fight was originally supposed to look a lot different than a dance with Dominick Cruz in San Diego, California.

“Chito” and Cruz will headline this weekend’s (Sat., Aug. 13, 2022) San Diego Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) return. According to Vera, however, the opponent and location first offered were fairly different.

The date remained the same, but instead, it was proposed as Vera versus another former Bantamweight titlist, Petr Yan, in Boston, Massachusetts. To Vera’s knowledge, “No Mercy” wasn’t ready for the opportunity.

“Petr Yan, that fat c—t, declined the fight because he was eating pizza in Italy,” Vera said on The MMA Hour. “And he said, ‘Oh, I don’t have time to make weight, I don’t have time to prepare.’ If I’m that easy money, why don’t you say, ‘F—k it, I’ll finish my slice and kick your ass’?

“But, he declined the fight, he said he wants to fight in November, October, so I was like, you ain’t that cool to wait for you, buddy,” he continued. “I want options, I wanna fight, I wanna make money. Come on, let’s go. They (UFC) went, ‘Well, he declined, now we move. Do you wanna fight Dominick Cruz?’ I was like, ‘Sure, why not?’ Why am I gonna lie? That’s not trash talking, that’s not beef between me and the Russian fat guy. He just didn’t have the time. He was on a little trip in Europe, good for him, dude.”

With Vera fully focused on his task at hand, seeking a fourth straight win by beating the division’s arguable best ever, Yan gets back in action on Oct. 22, 2022, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates against a past opponent of Vera’s, Sean O’Malley.

The Ecuador native is the only one to have defeated O’Malley (15-1, 1 no contest), earning a first round technical knockout in Aug. 2020.

Henrique Otavio Oliveira Velozo apparently turned himself over to authorities on the night of August 7.

The man responsible for taking the life of jiu-jitsu star Leandro Lo is no longer missing.

On the night of Sunday, August 7, military police officer Liutenant Henrique Otavio Oliveira Velozo turned himself in to the police and has reportedly confessed to his involvement in Lo’s death in a police station in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, news website G1 reported.

According to the authorities, the 30-year-old will be taken to Penitentiary Romao Gomes, where he will stay await a possible hearing.

Per Brazilian news outlet UOL, shooting Lo was not Velozo’s first time being in trouble with the law. Back in 2017, Henrique had also been charged with assault and disrespect against fellow officers, an infraction to which he also confessed and turned himself in.

In May 2021, Velozo was sentenced to nine months in prison for disrespecting and assaulting fellow officer Flavio Alves with punches. He was tried and sentenced by the Military Court of Justice in Brazil.

An eight-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, Leandro Lo was shot in the head by Velozo in the early hours of August 7, following an altercation between the two men at a night club. The incident reportedly started when Velozo took a bottle from Lo’s table, after which Lo apparently took him down and subdued him. After the two men separated, Velozo is said to have produced a gun and fired on Lo. Lo was transported to a hospital in Sao Paulo, where he died shortly afterward. The the noted BJJ champion was only 33 years old.
