Daniel Cormier Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have plenty of bad blood, stemming from their rivalry in the UFC and also continuing during some recent back-and-forth on social media. But, everyone has an opinion regarding Jones’ latest arrest in Las Vegas for domestic violence and vehicle tampering, even Cormier.

Jones was arrested last Saturday just hours after receiving his induction into the UFC Hall of Fame for his legendary fight with former UFC light heavyweight challenger Alexander Gustafsson. Details have leaked regarding the incident that is indeed disturbing, including a physical altercation between Jones and his fiancee, Jessie Moses in their hotel room.

Cormier is now one of the most prominent voices in the UFC community today, and is a staple of the promotion’s broadcasts as well as his talk show, ‘DC & RC’. Cormier had a lot to say during a recent episode of his show about Jones’ latest run-in with the law.

“Dana has said multiple times, ‘We can’t get him into Vegas, not even for 12 hours,’ but what has been proven time and time again is that the trouble seems to follow Jones,” Cormier during an appearance on ESPN. “Because he’s gotten in trouble in Albuquerque, he’s gotten in trouble in New York. He’s gotten in trouble but this time it seems very serious.”

“When bad behavior becomes the expectation, that should be the biggest wake-up call for you to get it together because there’s no more disappointment. You’ve got to get it right.”

Cormier also went on to say that the UFC has a Code of Conduct policy in their organization, but they only seem to enforce it during times of serious contention. Cormier had a lot to say to Jones in the buildup of their second bout, including that Jones doesn’t learn from his mistakes and will continue to cause controversy.

The beef between Cormier and Jones will likely never go away, but it seems that Cormier has a point when it comes to what could be next in Jones’ career and life.

What do you think the UFC should do about Jon Jones?

Recently, former UFC welterweights Tyron Woodley and Dan Hardy had a heated exchange on social media, and it now appears that their spat continued into the DMs.

Dan Hardy has been among the most critical of Tyron Woodley’s performance against Jake Paul in their August 29th boxing match. To be specific, Hardy thought Woodley looked like a “sack of shit” in the fight. Hardy’s roasting of “The Chosen One” only picked up after Woodley followed through on the “I Love Jake Paul” tattoo bet, which is what ignited their heated social media exchange this week.

Now, Hardy has released the alleged DMs between himself and Woodley that immediately followed their public bickering. Below you can find a screenshot of the exchange courtesy of Submission Radio, accompanied by the transcript.

Woodley: “Keep my name out your mouth. You stay smiling in my face and the quickest to talk shit behind cameras and keyboards.”

Hardy: “Mate, I’d talk shit to your face. You talk a big game and then shit the bed. You stood and stared at the kid for eight rounds and then call for an immediate rematch. Laughable.”

Woodley: “You never tasted gold. You are a mosquito. I’m glad your post got you a little taste of greatness. When was your last fight? Don’t worry. No one cares.”

Hardy: “When was the last time you showed up to fight?”

Woodley: “Key words….when I step in there. You washed. I’ll mail you a dryer for Christmas. Be well, mate. You been trying to tell me how to behave at the top for ages. I’ll add a (signed) t-shirt, too.”

Hardy: “You’re jokes, mate. Good luck with the rematch. Try hit him this time.”

There currently is no update on whether Jake Paul will rematch Woodley or not. Hardy himself has expressed an interest in returning to completion by fighting Woodley, and the mutuality of that interest may be growing every time the two legends interact.

Who do you think “won” this alleged war of words between Tyron Woodley and Dan Hardy?

Bryant Jennings would rather miss out on possibly winning a world title than get vaccinated.

Former heavyweight title challenger Bryant Jennings had a golden opportunity to become the first “bridgerweight” champion in WBC history, but he has backed out over COVID-19 vaccination requirements.

Before we get to the main story, the WBC (and only the WBC) decided to introduce the bridgerweight division in between cruiserweight (200 lbs) and heavyweight (unlimited), with a maximum limit of 224 lbs. Is this all just another way to collect sanctioning fees off of world titles? Yes, obviously. We’ll save that rant for another day.

Anyway, Jennings was supposed to fight Oscar Rivas for the inaugural title on October 22nd. These two had previously fought for minor heavyweight belts in New York back in 2019, with Rivas getting a 12th round TKO victory. The rematch was set to happen in Quebec, Rivas’ adopted home in Canada. As of September, Quebec has a COVID-19 vaccine passport system, and non-residents who want to participate in events that require the passport must have the following:

  • Valid photo ID with an address outside Québec
  • Official proof of vaccination against COVID-19 issued by their country or province in Canada

Rivas’ promoter, Yvon Michel, revealed earlier this week that Jennings won’t get vaccinated and won’t even comply with Canada’s quarantine rules as a non-vaccinated person.

Jennings is adamant that he didn’t violate the agreements of his contract — he underlined that “Team Jennings must follow the Quebec Public Health requirements in application at the period of the event”, but he sure as hell isn’t down with requirements in the first place.

Quebec’s vaccine passport plans have been in the works since July and indoor combat sports was included among the list of activities that required vaccination.

He also complained about the quarantine rules, which he’d otherwise be exempt from if, you know, he was fully vaccinated by now.

…Yeah.

A quick Twitter search gives away that Jennings is extremely against the vaccine and there is no evidence he can be persuaded towards sensible thinking that would make him get the vaccine.

Rivas’ team has found a replacement opponent, reportedly Jerry Forrest, whose last fight saw him rally from three knockdowns to get a draw vs. Zhang Zhilei. As long as Forrest is fully vaccinated and can travel to Canada, the title shot is his.

Dana White finds himself on a deserted Fight Island of people impressed with Nick Diaz’s performance at UFC 266.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White appears to stand alone on an island of wealth, power and the belief that Nick Diaz looked impressive at UFC 266.

Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler (watch highlights) aired on the pay-per-view (PPV) main card of UFC 266, taking place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sat., Sept. 25. Diaz appeared to call it quits partway through round three of their fight. Many were critical of Diaz’s physique — after all the fight was moved from welterweight to middleweight on less than a week’s notice — and his overall preparation.

“I thought Nick Diaz looked incredible, considering he hasn’t fought in (six) years. I don’t know what I was expecting. You never know what to get with the brothers. But let me tell you what, with a (six-year) layoff, I thought he looked unbelievable,” White told the press at Tuesday’s Contender Series event (h/t MMA News). “That first round — and I don’t know if you guys saw Robbie after the fight, but Robbie had friggin’ knots and lumps all over him. Those two went to war. The fight itself exceeded my expectations because Nick hadn’t fought in five years. I thought Robbie was just gonna go out there and buzzsaw through him. And that was not the case.

“Those are the kind of things I expect from the Diaz brothers,” he adds of their on-and-off-again relationship with fighting. “But I don’t know. I honestly don’t know the answer to that question. But he looked damn good. That kid’s got a massive heart. He’s obviously a super-talented fighter. And yeah, I was impressed.”

Diaz vs. Lawler was officially waved off at 0:44 of round three.

Mark Hunt Antagonizes Dana White After Lawsuit Revival

Mark Hunt and UFC president Dana White have had their differences, and the feud will continue after the heavyweight’s lawsuit has been revived in the courtroom.

The “Super Samoan” has been fighting inside the court and outside the Octagon for years now. In 2019, the court dismissed Hunt’s claims against the UFC. The former UFC heavyweight alleges that the company, and Dana White had knowledge of Brock Lesnar’s use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The two met each other in a highly publicized heavyweight bout back in 2016 at UFC 200 where Hunt lost by unanimous decision. Later, a No Contest result was rendered after Lesnar tested positive for illegal substances. Mark Hunt claims that the UFC and Dana White knew about the PEDs, and has since pursued litigation on the basis of fraud and battery.

Recently, the UFC and Endeavor have both been under fire for their support of the way the UFC pays fighters. After antagonizing the UFC boss, Mark Hunt is insistent that justice is finally on its way.

“U fkers said to me many many moons ago if I was a gambling man and I will ask u here the same question because u ain’t eva going to get rid of me I’m a motherfken gangsta and I got that rusty fork waiting for all of your bch a eyeballs.” Mark Hunt posted.

“@danawhite u better kill me bra u ain’t going anywhere G u and your little puy freinds u bches have stolen from so many of us fighters and our families finally justice is about to start for u punk motherfkers enjoy it bch. Hunt stated. And all of those who scoffed and laughed at me and said all sorts of sh** u can all kiss my black a** u filthy coward f**ks.”

Following lulls in litigation, a frustrated Mark Hunt voices to the UFC president that he’s not going anywhere, anytime soon. The 47-year-old last stepped into the Octagon against Justin Willis in 2018 and lost by unanimous decision.

The UFC has been publicly criticized for its pay structure. When the company became the target of a class-action lawsuit, they were forced to reveal its revenue-sharing aggregates. Following the reveal, many were in shock to see that the UFC is only paying roughly 16%-18% of revenue to its fighters. In comparison, major sporting leagues like the NFL and NBA are shelling out nearly 50% in revenue to their respective athletes.

Do you think Mark Hunt will win his courtroom fight against the UFC?

Valentina Shevchenko Claims That Amanda Nunes Doesn’t Want Trilogy

Amanda Nunes Valentina Shevchenko

UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is open to a possible third fight with bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes before her career ends, but she doesn’t think Nunes would be open to the idea of a trilogy bout.

Shevchenko is fresh off her dominant performance over Lauren Murphy at UFC 266 last weekend, winning by TKO late in the bout after a barrage of striking. She took her time, found her range, and absolutely demolished a confident challenger in Murphy.

Shevchenko and Nunes have had two previous battles in the cage, with the second and most recent bout ending in a controversial fashion. Many felt that Shevchenko earned the victory, but it was Nunes that ended up getting the split decision at UFC 215.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Shevchenko spoke about the possibility of a trilogy with Nunes.

“I kind of feel that she’s doesn’t want too much this fight to happen,” Shevchenko said. “Because inside of herself, she feels that she was gifted the victory from our second fight. Gifted by the judges. She feels that she was beaten by the smaller girl from the smaller weight class and she is a bigger girl.”

“This is my goal. I know that when we will have a fight next time, it’s going to be I will be ready to do anything.”

Nunes is slated to face Julianna Pena later this year, in her latest bantamweight title defense. She also still currently holds the featherweight title and has won 12 fights in a row.

Shevchenko, since their second bout, earned the vacant flyweight title over Joanna Jedrzejczyk and has looked nearly unbeatable ever since. Since her fight with Jedrzejczyk, she’s finished four of her last six title defenses.

With both Shevchenko and Nunes seemingly clearing out their respective divisions, a third fight between the two of them could make a lot of sense down the line.

What are your thoughts on a possible trilogy between Valentina Shevchenko and Amanda Nunes?
