Check out the current fight card for the June 26th Fight Night event headlined by heavyweights Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov.

Almost exactly one month from now on June 26th is a Fight Night event that will serve as the last UFC show before the trilogy between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. In the main event of this card is what should be an intriguing heavyweight bout between strikers Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov. We have every reason to believe that fight will be better than Gane vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik was.

There’s no co-main event announced as of yet. The next most notable fight is light heavyweights Ovince Saint Preux and Maxim Grishin. We do get to see Anthony Hernandez back in action after his shock win over Rodolfo Vieira, as he faces Punahele Soriano. Renato Moicano also returns to the cage versus Jai Herbert.

The main card will be at 4 PM ET/1 PM PT while the prelims are at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT, so you get some Saturday morning/afternoon Octagon action to look forward to.

Here is what is on tap, knowing we’ll have a couple more fights added to the lineup:

Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov

Ovince Saint Preux vs. Maxim Grishin

Anthony Hernandez vs. Punahele Soriano

Danilo Marques vs. Ed Herman

Renato Moicano vs. Jai Herbert

Ike Villanueva vs. Marcin Prachnio

Tim Elliott vs. Su Madaerji

Michel Prazeres vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov

Justin Jaynes vs. Charles Rosa

Timur Valiev vs. Raoni Barcelos

Warlley Alves vs. Ramazan Emeev

Mike Tyson is aware that Jake Paul is still awaiting an opponent for his next pro boxing match, but he recently played matchmaker and said that UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman should be the next man to face Paul in the ring.

In a recent episode of his Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast, Tyson spoke with former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo and said that Paul vs. Usman would be the definition of ‘box office’.

“I want to see that sh*t,” Tyson said. “It’s twice or three times as much money in the UFC. So, how could he turn it down?”

Usman and Paul have gone back and forth on social media and through the press, and “The Nigerian Nightmare” said that while he would welcome a fight with the YouTube star, it would need to be for the right price.

In a recent sit-down with ESPN’s Ahora o Nunca, Usman said he welcomes a boxing match with Paul but it would need to be under his own terms financially.

“I don’t necessarily care for the fight. I don’t care for it. I don’t really entertain it, honestly,” Usman said. “But there’s a lot of work that I’ve put into my sport to get to the position that I’m in. And then when you see these guys come in and just, ‘Oh, I wanna challenge him. I want to challenge that guy, that guy, it’s almost disrespectful.”

“I think the check would have to have eight zeroes in it. If there’s eight zeroes in front of the check, then for sure, we’ll consider it.”

Usman most recently defended his UFC welterweight title in a rematch with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. Paul is coming off his first-round knockout against former UFC standout Ben Askren just a little over a month ago.

What do you think about a potential boxing match between Jake Paul and Kamaru Usman? Who should Paul face next?

It’s been a pretty sharp fall from grace for Tyron Woodley, who went from being the UFC welterweight champion for two years to immediately hitting a four fight, 16 round losing streak. The last loss, a first round submission loss to Vicente Luque in March 2021, marked the last fight on Woodley’s UFC contract. And with that the former champ is no longer with the UFC.

On the plus side, this gives him more time to devote himself to his music career, which he clearly still enjoys. More than cagefighting after a 10+ year career? Hey, there’s nothing wrong with following new passions. Woodley has been putting out new raps and collabs and music videos alongside friends and partners for a couple of years now.

In May of 2020 he released a UFC comeback track called ‘Revenge,’ which he said was ‘a reflection of struggle. The highs and lows. Tragedy and Triumph!’ Now he’s done talking about fighting and just playing eye candy for a new video from St. Louis-based pop/R&B singer Mai Lee. Woodley is heavily featured in her video ‘Redd (Swim)’ and gets to be the lucky man Lee crawls all over for three and a half minutes.

I’m sure we can expect more music from Woodley now that he’s no longer stuck trying to regain the glory he held at welterweight during his career peak. But can we expect more fighting? Woodley is clearly willing to compete again for the right kind of paycheck, and set himself up as a viable contender in the Jake Paul freakshow fight sweepstakes when he instigated a confrontation with one of Paul’s boxing coaches, J’Leon Love, on the night of the Ben Askren bout.

We doubt Paul is willing to step in there with Woodley, who still has that piston of a right and is about a million times more dangerous than Ben Askren. But a match between Woodely and Love? Now that’s the kind of undercard bout that could draw in a couple extra eyes and integrate another of Paul’s crew into the money making process.

Really, we’re just hoping Woodley gets himself a couple more juicy paydays out of his combat sports career. The more money, the more baller music videos and slick studio productions we can expect! Win, win, right guys?

Mackenzie Dern will face Marina Rodriguez next, per Dana White

Rising strawweight star Mackenzie Dern will face a tough test against Marina Rodriguez for her next fight, as announced by UFC president Dana White earlier today.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, White said that Dern will battle Rodriguez for her next fight, on a date and venue to be determined.

“She does have a fight coming up,” White said. “Hopefully, it’s done. My people hate when I do this. She’s taking on Marina Rodriguez next, which is a great fight.”

Dern and Rodriguez are the number 5 and number 6 contenders in the strawweight division, which has recently earned a spot as one of the deepest divisions in the UFC. Rodriguez is fresh off her unanimous decision win over Michelle Waterson at UFC Vegas 26, while Dern submitted Nina Ansaroff at UFC Vegas 23.

Dern and Rodriguez are both still in the running for title contention as well entering their planned fight. Strawweight champion Rose Namajunas is expected to fight either top contender Carla Esparza or a rematch with Zhang Weili for her first title defense in her second reign as champion.

The winner of the proposed Dern vs. Rodriguez fight is surely to be one of the next women in line for a shot at the belt. Following her win over Ansaroff, Dern spoke with LowKickMMA in an exclusive interview and said that she was looking at a potential fight with Joanna Jedrzejczyk but that matchup never materialized.

Namajunas earned a first-round knockout over Weili at UFC 261 to re-claim the belt and begin her second run as the belt holder.

Dern has been on a run since suffering her first loss against Amanda Ribas, having won four straight including the submission of Ansaroff. Rodriguez’s lone defeat in her professional career was to former champion Esparza at UFC Fight Island 3.

The women’s strawweight division continues to entertain and a matchup between Dern and Rodriguez should bring more clarity to the title conversation.

What do you think about the potential matchup between Mackenzie Dern and Marina Rodriguez?

The UFC women’s strawweight division is stacked with contenders, and Mackenzie Dern is lined up to face the woman ranked one spot below her.

It looks like a major strawweight matchup between two rising stars is coming up soon.

Dana White told TMZ Sports that BJJ sensation Mackenzie Dern will be fighting dangerous striker Marina Rodriguez next. He didn’t specify the date or venue but that this fight has been made.

“She does have a fight coming up,” White said. “I was just talking about her this morning. We haven’t announced it, I’m sure, but I’ll give it to you, anyway. Hopefully, it’s done. My people hate when I do this. She’s taking on Marina Rodriguez next, which is a great fight.”

Dern (11-1) is on a four-fight winning streak, most recently submitting Nina Nunes with relative ease last month in Las Vegas. The decorated submission specialist has also tapped out Randa Markos and Hannah Cifers during her current winning run, while going the distance with Virna Jandiroba. Only Amanda Ribas has bested Dern in her MMA career, and she’s looked considerably better since then.

Rodriguez (14-1-2) dispatched Michelle Waterson in a five-round main event earlier this month, having accepted the bout on short notice and at flyweight. It may sound lame to say that this was a strawweight fight minus the weight cut but it might as well have been just that. Her only loss came against presumptive next title challenger Carla Esparza, and her 2021 got off to a brilliant start with a knockout of Amanda Ribas.

The current UFC rankings have Dern at #5 and Rodriguez at #6 so this seems like logical matchmaking. Perhaps the key question will be whether or not it’ll be three rounds or five.

Niko Samsonidse

German fighter Niko Samsonidse’s bout at National Fighting Championship 3 ended in devastating fashion, as he broke his leg while fighting Mohammed Sadok Trabelsi for the interim featherweight championship.

The horrific break happened just seconds into the second round of the fight, after Samsonidse threw a left leg kick and snapped his leg in the process.

This is the third major leg break across Mixed Martial Arts over the past few weeks, and the second since former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman snapped his leg during his fight against Uriah Hall at UFC 261. Most A Polish kickboxer suffered a leg break of his own just weeks after Weidman’s injury.

The fight was immediately stopped about Samsonidse collapsed following the kick and just before Trabelsi was about to start ground-and-pounding him to secure the finish. Samsonidse was taken to a local hospital and an update on his condition hasn’t been given to this point.

Samsonidse entered the fight with a 9-2 record and a chance to earn the interim featherweight title for NFC. He had won seven straight before the the fight with Trabelsi.

During the NFC post-fight show, Trabelsi appeared visibly shook by how the fight ended and expressed his best wishes for Samsonidse as he begins his recovery from the horrific break he suffered.

What’s eerie is not only the frequency of leg breaks over the past few weeks, but the similarities between the three separate instances. All three fighters suffered a similar break in the similar spot, which all resulted in the same fates.

Weidman is expected to miss 6-8 months as he recovers from a compound fracture in his right leg. He is no stranger to injuries during his MMA career, undergoing a total of 18 surgeries of his knees, elbows, neck and hands.

We will provide a full update on Samsonidse’s condition as it becomes available to the public.

What’s your reaction to yet another horrific leg break in MMA?
