Between 2005 and 2010 Gina Carano was one of the most influential mixed martial artists in the industry.

Carano, Cristine ‘Cyborg’ Santos, and a few other notable names were all that kept women’s MMA going, in an industry that was at the time, a near completely male-dominated sport.

Carano competed in a variety of promotions, including Strikeforce and EliteXC, amassing a 7-1 record.

However, since retiring in 2009, following her only professional loss, Carano has since transitioned into acting.

Most recently she has appeared in The Mandolorian, Lucasfilm’s break out Star Wars spin-off. The show has recently finished its second season, in which Carano appeared in a semi-prominent role. Since the season’s completion, Lucasfilm has announced that Carano has been cut from her role, due to some of her posts on social media.

A Lucasfilm spokesperson released the following statement:

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable”(via Variety.com)

This statement was released in response to an Instagram post by Carano, that compared the current politcal landscape in America to that of Germany in WWII. The post said the following:

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” Carano wrote Instagram. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views” (via BJPenn.com)

It would appear that Lucasfilm will not be working with Carano at all in the future, despite their plethora of upcoming spin-offs that her character may have once been involved in. The hashtag, #FireGinaCarano has trended multiple times over 2020. Primarily in regard to her posts on Twitter, supporting Donald Trump’s claim that the 2020 election was rigged. It appears that her accumulative outspoken social media posts have added up and have since forced Lucasfilm to take action.

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has revealed he will be in Ben Askren’s corner when the former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder makes his professional boxing debut against Jake Paul on April 17.

Woodley and Askren have a well-documented friendship. So, of course, ‘The Chosen One’ is predicting ‘Funky’ will get it done against the YouTube star in a couple of months’ time.

“Ben has very dumpy power, that’s the best way I can explain it,” Woodley told The Schmo. “When he punches, it’s not like the super-fast [Floyd] Mayweather type stuff, but when he hits you it’s like damn that kinda f*ckin’ hurt a little bit. So in my mind, I think that he clings to guys well, we haven’t really seen him take a lot of punches. Robbie [Lawler] hit him a couple times. Obviously, he got flying kneed, but we haven’t seen him sit there and just take f*cking shots from people throwing hands at him.

“So I think he’s going to be able to get close to Jake, kinda talk a little shit to him because Ben’s been doing that since college, and then really just wear him down and wear him out,” Woodley added. “Then I think those later rounds, Ben’s been on this stage, the Bellator stage, the ONE FC stage, the UFC stage, the Olympic stage, the NCAA stage, the crowd and the lights, and everything that goes with the pazazz of putting on a show — he’s not going to be moved by. Jake, this is new to him. YouTube is one thing but when you’re in front of people and people are watching you… He showed up against those guys he fought but I think Ben’s a world-class athlete whether he looks like he can jump 40-feet off the ground or not, he’s world-class in three different sports.”

Woodley has his own big fight coming up. The welterweight great is set to take on Vicente Luque at UFC 260 on March 27. He is looking to bounce back from losing three straight fights in the UFC.

Despite being a busy man himself, Woodley insists he will help Askren in any way he can and also confirmed he will be part of Askren’s corner team come fight night.

“I’m gonna help him out, I’m gonna corner him,” Woodley said. “I’ll try to see how I can merge it in with my training camp but Ben just told me come after my fight, that’s only a week. If you can come earlier, come earlier. That’s how Ben is. Yeah, I’ll be there.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Colby Covington Blasts Mark Cuban For Removing National Anthem From Dallas Mavericks Games

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington has ripped Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban who has announced the American national anthem will no longer be player prior to his teams NBA games.

‘Chaos’ wasn’t happy to read about this and responded fursiouly to the article posted out by The New York Post.

“Can’t play The National Anthem and can’t say FREE Hong Kong, but you could customize the back of your official @DallasMavs jersey ALL summer long to say: “KillCops.” @MarkCuban and the @NBA are absolute trash.”

A few hours later, the Dallas Mavericks PR team released a statement confirming the national anthem would be played at their game against the Atlanta Hawks which took place last night.

“We respect and always have respected the passion people have for the anthem and our country. But we also loudly hear the voices of those who feel that the anthem does not represent them. We feel that their voices need to be respected and heard, because they have not been.

“Going forward, our hope is that people will take the same passion they have for this issue and apply the same amount of energy to listen to those who feel differently from them. Only then we can move forward and have courageous conversations that move this country forward and find what unites us.”

It remains unclear if this U-turn is permanent or just a one-off. This is not the first time Covington has publicly blasted people in the NBA. ‘Chaos’ used the post-fight speech after his last UFC win to call out “spineless cowards like LeBron James.” He later slammed the NBA for postponing games amid racial tensions in the U.S.

Covington got back in the win column last time out by dominating and stopping former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. He is now expected to fight his former teammate and friend, turned rival Jorge Masvidal – although nothing is official yet.

Do you agree with Colby Covington? Should the national anthem be played before NBA games?
