BARUERI, Brazil — UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo wants more money.
Coming off an epic five-round title defense against Chad Mendes in the main event of UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro in October, Aldo host a Q&A before the official UFC Fight Night 58 weigh-ins in Barueri, Brazil, and once again asked for better salaries for MMA fighters.
When asked about the money UFC and other MMA promotions pay their athletes in comparison to what the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao make in boxing, Aldo said MMA organizations don’t pay enough.
“The athlete is not treated like he deserves. We deserve better,” Aldo said on Friday. “I’m not speaking only about the UFC, but about the media as well. The fans treat us really well. We suffer a lot and live to do a show. We get paid way less than we deserve. We deliver shows and deserve to get paid more. We practically pay to do this. You deserve to get better paid if you sell the fight.”
Aldo, who turned 28-years old weeks before improving to 25-1 in MMA with one more win over Mendes, hopes the situation changes in the future, but he probably won’t be around to benefit from it.
“To get closer to boxing is complicated, but it would be great,” he said. “Boxing is in the culture around the world for a long time, while the UFC is new and is still growing. I think it’s hard to get closer to what boxing pays their athletes, but we work for that. If they do get closer one day, I think I’ll be retired already.”

BARUERI, Brazil — Jose Aldo is open to a champion vs. champion clash in the UFC.
The UFC featherweight kingpin, who is not interested in moving up to lightweight and face Anthony Pettis anymore, welcomed the idea of fighting current 135-pound champion T.J. Dillashaw.
In a recent interview on Team Alpha Male Radio, Dillashaw said he is interested in fighting Aldo.
“I wanna fight Aldo so bad, dude,” Dillashaw said. “I will beat Aldo. I wanna fight him.”
During a Q&A with the fans prior to the UFC Fight Night 58 weigh-ins on Friday, Aldo responded to Dillashaw’s comments.
“I would love to (fight him),” Aldo said with a laugh. “I really hope that fight happens, it would be great.”
Aldo, who holds wins over Team Alpha Male products Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes (twice), eyes his fourth win against the team.
“I think he’s trying to promote himself, that’s why he’s saying that,” Aldo said. “I would love to beat him up. It would be great to end my story with those three with a golden key.”

BARUERI, Brazil — Jose Aldo defended the UFC featherweight championship for the seventh straight time against Chad Mendes at UFC 179, and the Brazilian fighter hopes Conor McGregor gets the next shot at his belt.
“I hope he’s next because it would be a huge fight,” Aldo said during a Q&A session before UFC Fight Night 58 official weigh-ins in Barueri, Brazil, on Friday.
McGregor is 4-0 in the UFC, but Aldo doesn’t believe he’s good enough to fight for the gold. However, he wants the challenge.
“We have to look at both sides of the situation,” Aldo explained. “He talks a lot, so it makes you more excited to fight. It makes it more intense. I hope he’s next and that we can do a great fight.
“He’s a tough fighter, but we haven’t seen him against a top 5,” he continued. “He’s not ready, but the promotion he does is good. He’s a good athlete. He talks a lot. If he doesn’t talk that much, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
“I see Chad (Mendes) as the best of them. If you put (Frankie) Edgar, Conor or (Ricardo) Lamas, he beats all of them on the same night.”
McGregor faces Dennis Siver in Boston on Jan. 18, and Aldo favors him to win.
“I’m rooting for Conor,” he said. “Like it or not, I hope he wins because I will win a lot by fighting him.”
McGregor claims the UFC will have him facing Aldo for the UFC gold in a soccer stadium in Ireland, and Aldo wouldn’t be opposed to the idea. However, he would prefer to fight again in Brazil.
“It all depends on the negotiation,” Aldo said of fighting in Brazil. “If they pay me well… We have soccer stadiums here too, so if I could bring this fight to Brazil, I don’t care about him.”
