UFC president Dana White has been especially coy in recent interviews
when asked to address a potential signing of top heavyweight fighter
Fedor Emelianenko.
White’s patented answer is recent weeks has been framed with a wry smile
and usually consists of a, “I’ve talked to his people more recently
than you would think,” followed with a gaze that suggests he knows far
more than he’s willing to let on.
But Emelianenko’s M-1 Global reps remain steadfast in their denial of
any contact with White and insist that settling their minor differences
with Strikeforce is still goal No. 1.

While Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields has perhaps the biggest fight of his career at next Saturday’s
“Strikeforce: Nashville” event, much of the discussion regarding the
Cesar Gracie product has centered around his career after the fight.
And while Shields himself told MMAjunkie.com in
March that he would be a free agent following the April 17 CBS-broadcast
event, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker today said on a media call promoting
the card that Shields might be around a little bit longer.
“We have the ability to exercise one other fight, and we’re going to
wait to see what happens with this fight,” Coker said.

Nothing seems to faze UFC lightweight contender Frankie Edgar.
The 28-year-old Jersey Shore native is cool and collected where many
fighters his age and level of experience are seemingly wound too tight.
Hearing him talk about the biggest opportunity of his life, a shot at
the dominant champion B.J. Penn this Saturday at UFC 112, is just a step
above a PowerPoint presentation.
All the usual MMA platitudes are there: he’s well-prepared, he’s going
to impose his will, and no, he’s not overwhelmed by the pressure.
