Count Shane Mosley as one boxer who would love to give mixed martial arts a try.
During a live chat with FanHouse readers, Mosley was asked whether he’d ever follow in the footsteps of James Toney, who lost to Randy Couture last month at UFC 118, and test himself in MMA. Mosley said the idea interests him, but that he would need to take a long time training in wrestling and jiu jitsu to avoid being embarrassed the way Toney was, and he just doesn’t have that kind of time as he continues to focus on his boxing career.

When Josh Koscheck first agreed to take a spot on The Ultimate Fighter, the reality TV show the UFC first began showing on Spike in 2005, he didn’t know what to expect. And he certainly didn’t know that the show would reach its 12th season, that his own MMA career would progress to the point where he’s the coach on that season, and that he’d be months away from fighting for a UFC title.
“I don’t think anybody knew that it was going to take off,” Koscheck said of that first season. “The UFC didn’t know, Spike didn’t know, no one in the media knew — there was pretty much three web sites that covered MMA. When The Ultimate Fighter came out, after the first couple episodes the ratings were huge for the demographics they wanted and they thought they had something, and then the Finale was just off the hook with Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar fighting. That’s when we knew it was for real, and now we have an opportunity to make some money as fighters.”

Josh Barnett, who over the past 14 months has slipped from No. 2 heavyweight in mixed martial arts to barely even relevant — without even losing a fight — has signed with Strikeforce in an attempt, at age 32, to get some meaningful fights while he still can.
“Strikeforce is the home of the best heavyweight division in the world and I’m proud to be able to call it my home now,” Barnett said. “I’m looking forward to competing amongst the greatest fighters in the world and fighting my way to another world title.”
