UFC President Dana White said he believes Conor McGregor will return to mixed martial arts after his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August.

“I think we will [see him]. He wants to fight twice this year,” White said during an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter when asked if he believes McGregor will return to the UFC.

Mayweather announced Wednesday that his long-rumored boxing match with McGregor will take place Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.

McGregor, 28, will be boxing professionally for the first time.

OddsShark posted updated odds that show Mayweather as a -800 favorite (bet $800 to win $100) to win the bout. McGregor is currently a +500 underdog to give Mayweather his first loss as a professional.

Mayweather, 40, has not fought since defeating Andre Berto via unanimous decision in September 2015. Speculation about his return to the ring has been ongoing for more than a year, and the Mayweather camp has focused on a megafight with McGregor for months.

McGregor, UFC’s brightest star, came to an agreement with the mixed martial arts promotion about his purse split in May. He has never fought in a boxing ring professionally but is known as perhaps the most powerful pound-for-pound puncher in MMA. The 28-year-old is the only MMA fighter in history to hold two UFC championships concurrently.

For nearly all parties involved, this bout stands to be a major financial windfall.

Mayweather, despite a sordid history of domestic violence and myriad other controversies, remains boxing’s most popular name. His May 2015 win over Manny Pacquiao broke every boxing record for pay-per-view revenue, and he should waltz his way to another nine-figure payday against McGregor.

Perhaps the most popular mixed martial artist in history, McGregor is a splendid self-promoter who has combined WWE-style trash talk with unquestioned success. He could make more in one fight against Mayweather than he has his entire UFC career combined.

Angela Magana is ready to settle her beef with Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino inside the octagon. The UFC women’s bantamweight competitor took to Twitter on Wednesday to challenge Justino to a jujitsu matchup:

Magana’s tweet comes after Justino was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly attacking Magana at the 2017 UFC athlete summit. Nick Strickland of CagePages.com posted a video of the altercation Monday, which shows Justino telling Magana “you don’t respect nobody” before the situation turned physical. 

Magana has become a vocal antagonizer of Cyborg on social media, which was the impetus for the altercation. The two women were separated by UFC officials, and Magana was taken to a Las Vegas hospital to be treated for a minor face wound.

“This is a misdemeanor crime, which is the lowest of Nevada penalties,” Officer Larry Hadfield of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie. “When they found probable cause to believe the crime had occurred, they cited that other individual. For us, it’s a very minor call, I guess you could say.”

Justino could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. 

Magana and Justino fight in different weight classes, so settling this at a UFC event seems highly unlikely.

Anderson Silva is officially off the UFC 212 fight card. 

UFC officials announced Silva would be taken off the card Thursday, per MMA Junkie, days after the Brazilian legend announced it himself.

“I really wanted to fight in Brazil, my country, but it’s not going to happen,” Silva said Saturday, per MMA Junkie. “I want to apologize for this. I really wanted to fight here, but it didn’t happen. I think I was hurt in this, but that’s it.”

Silva was originally slated to face Kelvin Gastelum, who was taken off the card due to a positive drug test. UFC did not successfully find Silva a replacement opponent for the pay-per-view event, which will be held June 3 in Rio De Janeiro.

Silva, 42, last fought at UFC 208 in February. He defeated Derek Brunson via unanimous decision despite controversy, his first win since October 2012.

A former UFC middleweight champion, Silva has seemed disillusioned with UFC President Dana White‘s handling of the division. In an Instagram video posted Tuesday, Silva called White “The Almighty” on multiple occasions as part of an expletive-laded tirade.  

“I’m outraged, but I’m happy I’m ending a camp that wasn’t money thrown away,” Silva said, per Fernanda Prates of MMA Junkie. “With people I’m always learning with, a lot of cool people. I’m happy, coming home happy. In a way, happier than if I had fought. We managed to make ‘The Almighty’ alert. He’s going to have to put Romero to fight, there are no excuses. He’s the No. 1 ranked, and Bisping said he’s ready to fight. There are no excuses. In a way, I helped a co-worker.”

UFC has not announced a replacement bout for the scheduled Silva co-headliner. The promotion said anyone seeking a refund for purchased tickets may do so until May 18.

Silva, an MMA legend and former middleweight champion, last fought at UFC 208 in February. He defeated Derek Brunson via unanimous decision, but that bout was shrouded in controversy after many believed Brunson won the fight.

Conor McGregor heard about Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s First Take appearance and fired back on Twitter, sending out a tweet referencing the boxing star’s history of domestic violence Wednesday:

Text messages from NBA guard C.J. Watson reportedly upset Mayweather before his 2010 assault of Josie Harris, Mayweather’s girlfriend at the time and mother of three of his children. Mayweather was sentenced to 90 days in jail for the assault, his latest conviction stemming from a series of domestic violence accusations over the last decade-plus.

During his appearance on First Take, Mayweather touched on his negotiations with McGregor regarding a potential megafight that would bring the former out of retirement. The 39-year-old has not fought since a September 2015 win over Andre Berto.
