Ben Askren recently broached the idea of a rematch against Jorge Masvidal, which “Gamebred” responded to.

A little over three months ago, Jorge Masvidal scored the fastest knockout in UFC history with a flying knee over Ben Askren. With only five seconds of action, “Gamebred” dealt “Funky” his first career loss.

Askren is currently scheduled to headline UFC Singapore against Demian Maia, but the fight against Masvidal remains to be one he wants to get back.

“What I said explicitly was I wanted to come back to see if I was the best in the world,” Askren told MMA Fighting. “In that five seconds, we didn’t find that out. We found out Jorge has a fantastic knee and that I’m not invincible, but we didn’t find much else out.

“I think I can bounce back from that pretty quickly and hope that it happens.

“That would be really nice,” Askren said about a rematch against Masvidal. “Again, we’ll see where the division goes and where I’ll be, but I hope so.”

Masvidal is also booked for a fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 244, where the two will fight for the first “baddest motherf—r” title. While others aren’t a fan of the idea, Askren sees how it makes sense.

“Honestly, I think it works from a marketing angle,” he said. “I don’t love either one of the guys, but I think it definitely works from a marketing angle. They pitched it correctly, and I think it makes sense.”

Masvidal found out about Askren’s statements, which he responded to via Twitter.

UFC Singapore takes place on October 26th.
