Memphis, Tennessee played host to Bellator 162 as the main event saw Alexander Shlemenko make his emphatic return to U.S. soil by stopping Kendall Grove with strikes in the second round. The co-main event saw Bobby Lashley put on another dominant showing against Josh Appelt, in which the professional wrestling superstar scored a second round submission.

Main Card:

Alexander Shlemenko def. Kendall Grove at 1:43 of Round 2: Middleweight

Kendall Grove came out pumping his jab and using his footwork to delay Alexander Shlemenko from closing the distance. Shlemenko was eventually able to draw Grove into a high-paced brawl, where each fighter had their respective moments in the first round.

The second stanza saw Shlemenko throw a left hook to the liver followed by a right hand to the face that sent Kendall Grove crashing to the canvas. Badly hurt from the combinations of Shlemenko, Grove was rendered defenseless and the referee was forced to stop the fight.

Bobby Lashley def. Josh Appelt via Submission at 1:43 of Round 2: Heavyweight

It was business as usual for Bobby Lashley as he grounded Josh Appelt early, where he roughed him up for a big chunk of the first round. Josh Appelt was able to endure the brunt of Bobby Lashley’s assault throughout the first, but was unable to generate much of any offense of his own. The second stanza saw more of the same, but this time, Bobby Lashley was able to sink a RNC to earn his 5th straight finish in as many Bellator appearances.

Goiti Yamauchi def. Ryan Couture at 1:01 of Round 1: Lightweight

Ryan Couture was successful in putting Goiti Yamauchi on his back; however, doing so proved to be a dangerous move. Yamauchi wasted no time in walking up his legs and locking up an armbar to prompt a Couture tap from in just over 1 minute.

Hisaki Kato def. AJ Matthews via TKO at 4:58 of Round 1: Middleweight

As advertised, Hisaki Kato and AJ Matthews came out trading punches and kicks without any thoughts of a takedown. Kato, who was pressing early with his southpaw rear kick to the liver, was clipped early by Matthews but managed to maintain his composure. A poke to the eye of AJ Matthews caused a delay to the frenzied pace, but after a quick check from the doctor, Matthews was able to continue. Once the action resumed, Hisaki Kato swarmed AJ Matthews to put him away in the final moments of the first round.
