Bibiano Fernandes’ leg wasn’t broken during One FC 15 win

Bibiano Fernandes limped out of the cage after a unanimous decision victory over Masakatsu Ueda at One FC 15 in Manila, Philippines, on May 2, but he’s better than expected.

Right after he was announced the winner, Fernandes believed he had broken his leg during the title fight, but X-ray exams showed no fracture.

“He defended a kick with his knee in the fourth round,” Fernandes told MMAFighting.com. “My shin and foot are swollen, but there’s no broken bone. The doctor asked me to take a month off before returning to training.”

Fernandes, a former DREAM two-division champion, didn’t get the submission he was hoping for, but defended the One FC bantamweight title and improved to 4-0 under the promotion banner.

“Ueda is not an easy opponent, man,” he said. “He’s tough as nails, already beat Eduardo (Dantas) and Royler (Gracie), but thank God I dominated the fight. Ueda is really good, has great cardio, but thank God we made it.”

There is no word yet on Fernandes’ next title defense, but it could be against Korean prospect Dae Hwan Kim. Unbeaten in MMA with a 10-0-1 record and eight stoppage wins, Kim submitted Kevin Belingon and Thanh Vu in his two One FC appearances.

“They didn’t mention my next fight yet, let’s wait and see what’s next,” said the champion. “There’s a Korean guy (Kim) that is undefeated and has beat everybody (at One FC). I heard he’s tough. But I don’t know if he’s going to be my next fight. I’m waiting. I will fight whoever they want.”
