Brian Ortega has a big fight on his mind for his Octagon return.

“T-City” is coming off a failed UFC featherweight title bid against Max Holloway. Now, he’d like to fight the next best option, that being No. 1-ranked ex-featherweight king Jose Aldo.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Ortega said he’d like to share the cage with “Scarface” next, possibly with the vacant 145-pound title if Holloway emerges victorious in his interim lightweight title bout:

“That’s the only fight I see that makes sense for both of us,” Ortega said. “We’re at the top, we’re the two guys at the top, No. 1 and No. 2. Everyone else we pretty much beat except the newcomers and this is the fight that makes sense.

“This is the fight that the fans are gonna want to see and the one thing we have in common is that we both got beat by Max. It’s going to be a great time to fight him and prove who deserves to get the title shot again.

“And if Max decides to stay up at lightweight then we can make this fight happen for the belt.”

Jose Aldo is thriving at the moment, currently on a two-fight win streak. He owns knockout wins over Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano. He’s currently on his first win streak since 2014. Aldo is admittedly in the final stages of his UFC career, and has said in the past he has no interest in fighting for a UFC title.

Perhaps he’ll make an exception to test himself against the 28-year-old jiu-jitsu ace.
