Champ Jake Shields happy with Strikeforce, exec says contract calls for one-fight option

While Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields has perhaps the biggest fight of his career at next Saturday’s
“Strikeforce: Nashville” event, much of the discussion regarding the
Cesar Gracie product has centered around his career after the fight.

And while Shields himself told MMAjunkie.com in
March that he would be a free agent following the April 17 CBS-broadcast
event, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker today said on a media call promoting
the card that Shields might be around a little bit longer.

“We have the ability to exercise one other fight, and we’re going to
wait to see what happens with this fight,” Coker said.
