It’s no secret that the UFC would love to book a heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar next.

The pieces are all in place. Lesnar would like to return for a huge fight opportunity, and Cormier wants to make as much money as possible before walking away from the sport for good. However, this doesn’t sit well with some of the heavyweight division’s elite.

Take ex-heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos for example. The UFC Wichita main event winner believes a fight with Jon Jones, and not Lesnar, makes more sense for Cormier and the title. However, the Brazilian understands where Cormier’s mindset is at with wanting the Lesnar fight (via MMA Fighting):

“Of course,” dos Santos said. “I do understand that. But I cannot agree that this fight with Brock Lesnar makes sense, because it doesn’t. But of course politics — it’s politics.

“They can do whatever they want, but it doesn’t make sense. The right fight to do in the heavyweight division is Stipe, Ngannou or even me. I don’t know. I heard something about Jon Jones coming up to the heavyweight and fighting him.

“That would make more sense than Brock Lesnar fighting. But we’ll understand if he has to fight Brock Lesnar to make money or whatever. It’s always interesting to see Brock Lesnar fighting — and getting beat. I don’t know.”

“JDS” comes off a second-round TKO victory over Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis. He defeated the former heavyweight title challenger in the main event of UFC Wichita this past weekend (Sat. March 9, 2019). With three-straight victories under his belt, “Cigano” is now potentially gearing up for a brawl with fellow knockout artist Francis Ngannou next.

If he’s able to get past “The Predator”, denying dos Santos a heavyweight title opportunity is nearly impossible.
