Featherweight champion Max Holloway has the task of defending his belt this weekend. He’ll face number one contender Alexander Volkanovski in Las Vegas on a stacked UFC 245 fight card.

However, part of the 145lb champ is still chasing a fight with lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov. The pair where meant to meet at UFC 223 but Holloway was declared medically unfit to fight, after attempting a last-minute weight cut.

Khabib has gone on to beat Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor – who have both beat Holloway in the past. Holloway says that doesn’t matter and won’t make a difference when they actually fight. Speaking to Kevin Iole he said (H/T Yahoo Sports)

“We
don’t know, none of them is me, I’m not them. Khabib is Khabib. I wish it
happened. Khabib is on his way to being one of greatest to ever do it. I plan
on being one of the greatest to ever do it. I’m sure we’re gonna meet.

“As long as my goal and his goal is the same, we’re
gonna run into each other some time, and that’s being the greatest fighter of
all time.”

“We’ll see what happens,” Holloway said. “That fight excites me. There’s fights that raises lots of questions for someone, and he raises lots of questions. Hopefully we get to fight and find out the answers.” (Transcribed by South China Morning Post)

Holloway looks almost untouchable at 145lbs. The champion seems too big and is safe to stand in the pocket and trade bombs with his opponents. However, in his lone foray into the lightweight division he looked on the small side.

Dustin Poirier appeared too big, too strong and too powerful for much of their 155lb fight. Holloway eventually grew into the bout and made it close. However he’d have to grow into the division or risk a mauling if he ever meet’s Khabib.

Will Max Holloway ever face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov?
