It was recently revealed that Paul Felder suffered a collapsed lung in his fight with James Vick over the weekend (Sun. February 17, 2019).
“The Irish Dragon” defeated Vick via unanimous decision in the UFC on ESPN 1 co-main event. Shortly after the show, Felder’s manager, Brian Butler, took to Instagram to provide an update. He revealed that Felder suffered a small collapsed lung, but nothing that should keep him out long-term.
We now have an update to pass along. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reports that the original hope was that Felder would be released from the Phoenix hospital today. However, it turns out they are keeping him in for more tests:
“Update on @felderpaul: original hope was that he’d be discharged from a Phoenix hospital today after suffering from a collapsed lung in his fight against James Vick, but according to his manager Brian Butler they are keeping him longer for more tests.”
This was Felder’s first victory since being defeated by Mike Perry at welterweight in July. Felder stepped in to fight “Platinum” on short-notice at 170 pounds. He was defeated via split decision, ending a three-fight win streak. Felder is hoping to have a big run at lightweight this year, hopefully getting his name in the mix for a title opportunity.
Felder is remaining upbeat about his current plight, however, tweeting his current status:
