Every time Joe Lauzon steps into the Octagon, he is assured to give his absolute best, win or lose.

At UFC 136, Lauzon earned his sixth straight fight night bonus for “Submission of the Night” against Melvin Guillard. He submitted the dangerous Guillard with a rear-naked choke 47 seconds into the fight, and Lauzon climbs the lightweight ladder once again.

The question is, that for all of Lauzon’s work, is he being over looked?

Sure, in those seven straight “Fight Night” bonuses, Lauzon lost two of the fights, but he showed the heart of a warrior in each of those bouts.

The Season 5 Ultimate Fighter alumnus hasn’t main-evented a card since February 2009, but now that the Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard situation has been resolved for the time being, is this the time to make a title push for the former computer science major?

He is on a two-fight winning streak and things are looking up for this lightweight. Lauzon could have the skill to face a top 10 fighter in the division.

We have been so concentrated on the Edgar-Maynard situation that we largely neglected all other  happenings in the division. Who is the No. 1 contender? What’s the next matchup?

If it is anyone other than a rematch, you can definitely add Alex Curik’s cat out for a stroll on championship glory.

Has Lauzon stumbled upon his secret to play in a championship?

What do you think?
