UFC Vegas 40 flew under the radar for many fight fans and pundits, but it was an entertaining night nonetheless. The women’s featherweight headliner may have produced the next title challenger for Amanda Nunes, and the heavyweight co-headliner saw a mixed martial arts legend prove he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

The preliminary portion of the card began with a fun fight between Ariane Carnelossi and Istela Nunes that ended once ’Sorriso’ submitted the UFC newcomer by way of third-round rear-naked choke. Danaa Batgerel spoiled the promotional return of Brandon Davis and put an end to the fight with a quick first-round technical knockout. Luana Carolina survived an early submission attempt and a wrestling-heavy attack by Loopy Godinez to earn a unanimous decision win. Danny Roberts defeated Ramazan Emeev by split decision in a hard-fought battle. Bruno Silva fought through a number of fouls (3 groin strikes, to be exact) and finished Andrew Sanchez by third-round knockout.

The main portion of the card saw the always entertaining Nate Landwehr submit Ludovit Klein with an anaconda choke in the third and final round of their fight. Manon Fiorot kept Mayra Bueno Silva at bay for three rounds and dominated her very game opponent en route to a unanimous decision victory. Jim Miller made the walk to the Octagon for the 38th (!) time and left with a devastating second-round knockout over Erick Gonzalez. Andrei Arlovski turned back the hands of time yet again and bested Carlos Felipe by unanimous decision.

Norma Dumont sailed to an easy win over Aspen Ladd, who was making her divisional debut at 145 pounds. Dumont earned her third consecutive win, while Ladd lost for the second time under the UFC banner.
