Conor McGregor continues to assure fans and pundits that he’ll return to the Octagon after taking on Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Due to the amount of money he’ll make fighting Mayweather, many have argued that we’ve seen the last of McGregor in the UFC, but the lightweight champion appears to be dead set on continuing his MMA career.

If he does, McGregor feels as if a few options await him in the Octagon, with one being a showdown in Russia with No. 1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov:

“It’s certainly one of the things I would like to do,” McGregor told MMAjunkie backstage at SSE Arena Wembley. “Whether it’s next, I don’t know. I don’t even know how close the Russia thing is. Whether Khabib can pull his (expletive) together; he missed weight.”

The undefeated Nurmagomedov is undoubtedly one of the best lightweights in the world, but he has had issues with his health and his weight, most recently withdrawing from a scheduled interim title fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 just a day prior due to problems with his weight cut.

As far as other options go, McGregor admitted a trilogy with bitter rival Nate Diaz is still on his mind:

“There’s a few of them in the mix,” McGregor said. “A few of them need to pull their (expletive) together, though, and get interest going and get me interested. Right now I don’t actually see anything.”

“That Diaz trilogy is also on my mind,” he said.

Diaz famously submitted McGregor at UFC 196 back in March 2016 before the Irishman scored a majority decision in the rematch at UFC 202 last August. Diaz hasn’t fought since and it doesn’t appear that he plans to unless a trilogy with McGregor is on the table.

The Irishman, however, feels as if the Stockton native should be ‘thankful’:

“He should really be thankful,” McGregor said. “Before he fought me he was (getting paid) 20,000 to show and 20,000 to win. His 19th fight in the UFC, and he was on 40 grand. Now he’s a multi-millionaire. So, I don’t know why he’s sitting there so bitter. Maybe them smacks he took in that rematch messed with his head a little bit. I hope not, but I think they did.”

What do you expect McGregor to do in the future?

Nate Diaz Says He’s Not Interested in Fighting for UFC’s ‘Fake’ Interim Titles

UFC star Nate Diaz said he is not interested in fighting for interim titles after being offered a bout against Tony Ferguson.

According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Diaz was invited to compete for the interim lightweight title but instead chose a non-title 165-pound catchweight.

“If you’re trying to pull me out of a normal life right now, I’m not doing it for a fake title at 155 pounds,” Diaz told ESPN.com. “I told them I’d take the fight at 165 pounds, no belt. I’m not interested in losing a bunch of weight for no reason.”

Diaz explained the UFC has not responded to his thoughts on the matter, and he has no upcoming match booked for the Octagon.

“We never talked after that,” Diaz said. “It’s really not a problem for me, though. You’re trying to call me out of my life. I didn’t call you begging for a fight. I’m fine with taking a fight, but I’m telling you what it’s going to take.”

UFC President Dana White recently addressed the Californian’s standing in the organisation, per Okamoto.

“The kid isn’t in a position for pay-per-view or any of that type of [stuff],” White said. “But this [Ferguson fight] could put him in a position. If he fought Tony Ferguson, it would be for the interim title.

“Obviously, if you held the interim title, you would get a piece of the pay-per-view. Diaz has to put himself in a position to make the pay-per-view money.”

Diaz’s biggest win of his career came against Conor McGregor at welterweight in March 2016, and he is a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter 5.

By now it’s no real secret: Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is on the table.

It’s on the table to the extent Dana White has publicly made a first offer to the combatants, McGregor has insisted his next scrap will be under boxing rules, and Mayweather has talked almost exclusively of the Irishman as his next challenge.

There’s been some back-and-forth from all parties involved, as is the case with any negotiation, and opinions vary on the plausibility of the fight happening. Still, with talk as hot as it’s ever been about the crossover fight and people from both sides of the combat sports aisle weighing in, it’s hard not to think you’ll be watching Mayweather and McGregor slug it out by the end of 2017.

Part of the deal in the earliest stages of the discussion surrounding the bout has been talks of who will be responsible for building the undercard. If White is to be believed, it will be the UFC—a potential boon for the MMA giant, which would be granted the chance to get the sport in front of its largest pay-per-view audience ever (and maybe the largest pay-per-view audience ever).

If they’re going to secure that right and then pull it off with the proper pomp and circumstance, the promotion will need to put together a card full of title fights, proven stars and stars of tomorrow to truly maximize the opportunity.

Going on the presumption the event will be a five-fight main card taking place late this year and with Mayweather-McGregor in the main event slot, here are the four bouts that should support the two biggest names in the business on what would be the biggest night in UFC history.
