Aaron Pico breaks silence on suffering a loss in his latest fight under the Bellator MMA banner.
Pico suffered a first round KO loss to Henry Corrales in a featherweight bout. This fight served as the co-headliner of Bellator 214 on January 26, 2019 at The Forum in Inglewood, California on Paramount Network and DAZN.
As soon as Pico signed with Bellator MMA back in 2014, there was a ton of hype behind him due to his success as an American freestyle wrestler. Pico had no easy task in his Bellator MMA debut at the Bellator NYC on pay-per-view event against Zach Freeman in a lightweight bout. This fight did not last long and he lost. Since then, he has gone 4-1.
Despite his recent setback, Pico is fired up and expressed his frustration with his performance in this fight during the post-fight presser.
“There’s really no excuses to make,” Pico said (H/T to MMAFighting). “I felt good out there. My training camp went well. I hit him. I think I have so much power in my hands, I don’t realize I knock people down. It happened so fast. Obviously I made a mistake by staying in the pocket too long. It’s a 50/50 chance of somebody getting knocked out. That sucks, it sucks bad. But hey, I’m 22 years old, I don’t have this figured out yet. It’s something that needs to be slowed down for me. I need to use my wrestling a little bit more and we’ll go from there. We’ll go back to the drawing board.”
“I f*cking hate to lose,” Pico said. “I hate to lose, it’s that simple, whether it’s my pro debut or for a world title or whether it’s just a regular guy, that’s why it hurts so much. There’s a lot of stuff that goes into it, you know?”
It only lasted 1:07, but it was a fire mfight up until it ended. The MMA Lab’s Henry Corrales absolutely flatlined Aaron Pico in the co-main event of Bellator 214 tonight, most likely earning a title shot in the process. The MMA Lab’s Henry Corrales absolutely flatlined Aaron Pico in the co-main event of Bellator 214 tonight, most likely earning a title shot in the process.
Both Corrales and Pico threw caution into the wind but it was Whittier, California’s own “OK” Corrales that was left standing in the end.

This is yet another setback for Pico who seemingly had it all figured out after dropping his debut. As for Corrales, during his post-fight interview with John McCarthy, he called for a title fight.
Time will tell if Corrales gets his wish, however, he has won five straight fights since joining Benson Henderson and The MMA Lab.
Henry Corrales pulled off an absolute stunner in the co-main event of Bellator 214 tonight (Sat. January 26, 2019). He shared the cage with highly-touted mixed martial arts (MMA) prospect Aaron Pico. Pico looked like he was en route to a first-round kn…

The Viacom-owned promotion will get their year kicked off this weekend with Bellator 214 live from The Forum in Inglewood, California. The evening will culminate with Fedor Emelianenko and Ryan Bader going at it to crown the winner of the World Heavyweight Grand Prix.
Before the main event, however, Pico will face the stiffest test of his career when he squares off with the MMA Lab’s Henry Corrales. The bout will take place close to his home in California. Speaking up during a pre-fight scrum via MMA Fighting, Pico was glad to have the convenience:
“Yeah, it feels good honestly, it really does. It’s kind of weird because I sleep in my own bed, cut weight in my garage, I have a sauna, treadmill, everything I need. I’m so used to being in a hotel room. It’s different, but it’s just like normal you know? All my meals are cooked at home so I can’t complain.”
The Youngest Champ?
As for the perceived pressure of being the co-main event on such an important card, Pico wouldn’t want it any other way. He also believes a title shot would be next should he get his hand raised on Saturday night. that’s the next step towards becoming the youngest champion in MMA history:
“Absolutely. I like to have that pressure on me every fight. It just brings a different type of urgency, different type of focus. That’s why I’m so adamant about fighting tough guys. That’s just my mindset right now, I’m not worried about anything other than beating the best. I feel I get through this fight, I’m in a position to be the youngest world champion in history at 22 years old.”
Pico will have to act quickly he wants to beat Jon Jones’ record of becoming the youngest UFC champion in history at just 23 years old back in 2011.
