Israel Adesanya linked with UFC 300 trilogy fight with Alex pereira amid massive weight gain

Confirming at the end of last year how is planning a quickfire return to the Octagon instead of a confirmed layoff until 2027 at the very earliest, former two-time middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has been backed to fight Alex Pereira at the light heavyweight limit – appearing to show off a significant weight gain during his time away from the Octagon.

Adesanya, a former undisputed middleweight titleholder twice under the banner of the promotion, has been sidelined from competition since he headlined UFC 293 back in September, suffering a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Sean Strickland in Australia in an upset judging loss.

And initially announcing plans for a sidelining until 2027 amid his loss to Strickland, Adesanya has since confirmed plans to make a return to the UFC in the near future – amid links to a trilogy rubber match with undisputed light heavyweight champion – potentially at UFC 300 as part of the monumental April flagship card.

Israel Adesanya appears to have significantly bulked up

And despite initially rubbishing Sao Paulo rival, Pereira’s offer of a rubber match for the light heavyweight title this year, Adesanya has fueled speculation of a third fight with the two-weight champion – appearing to put on significant muscle mass and size since his most recent walk

Briefly making a light heavyweight division climb back in 2021, Adesanya challenged for undisputed divisional spoils against common-foe and former champion, Jan Blachowicz at the UFC Apex facility, suffering his first Octagon loss in the form of a unanimous decision loss.

Commenting on Adesanya’s apparent lack of interest in a third fight, Pereira admitted that he wanted to give the City Kickboxing an opportunity to close out their rivalry in the form of an Octagon trilogy bout.

“It doesn’t matter for me,” Alex Pereira said. “I called him (Israel Adesanya) out in the cage after the title win, and I wanted to give him the chance, and I saw he did not give me any respect for this – he was laughing about it and making some jokes.”

“So for me, it doesn’t matter anymore,” Alex Pereira explained. “I gave him the chance. If he comes up, nice; if he doesn’t, it doesn’t matter.”

Do you think Israel Adesanya is set for a light heavyweight move next?

Johnny Walker eyes UFC 300 title fight with Alex Pereira whatever it takes I'll be ready

Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon next weekend at UFC Vegas 84 – light heavyweight contender, Johnny Walker has spelled out his plan to fight compatriot, Alex Pereira for divisional gold at UFC 300 in April, by beating Magomed Ankalaev in the pair’s rematch fight.

Walker, the current number seventh ranked light heavyweight contender, has been sidelined from the Octagon since he appeared against former vacant title challenger, Ankalaev back in October at UFC 294, fighting to an eventual opening round ‘No Contest’ after the Russian landed an illegal knee, rendering Walker unable to continue.

The result snapped the Brazilian’s winning streak of three consecutive wins over Ion Cutebala, Paul Craig, and former title challenger, Anthony Smith.

Continually linked with a title fight of some form at UFC 300 in April, Pereira, who clinched vacant gold at UFC 295 last November, has put the brakes on a heavyweight title charge against interim gold holder, Tom Aspinall at the event, however, has vowed to likely make a move to the heavyweight ranks.

And as far as Walker is concerned, should he fellow Brazil require a willing dance partner as soon as UFC 300 in April, he would gladly stand opposite Pereira, once he gets past Ankalaev first and foremost.

“100 percent,” Johnny Walker told The Schmo during a recent interview. “I have some business to deal with [with Magomed Ankalaev] because the last fight was not the way that I expected it to be. I feel him already, I feel everything, I know his power and I have some very big surprise for him. I’m excited for this fight. I can’t wait to put my hands on him and make him pay. It’s gonna be like a little revenge.”

“Maybe me,” Johnny Walker said of a fight with Alex Pereira at UFC 300. “I just have to beat Ankalaev first. Whatever it takes, I’ll be ready.”

Who wins in a future title fight: Alex Pereira or Johnny Walker?

Following dismissal of a potential heavyweight divisional leap against interim division titleholder, Tom Aspinall at a stunning UFC 300 turnaround in April, Alex Pereira’s desire to defend his own light heavyweight crown has put the kibosh on a potential superfight, according to the British star.

Aspinall, who minted himself as the interim heavyweight champion back in November at UFC 295, snapped the winning streak of Russian knockout artist, Sergei Pavlovich with the pair’s impromptu title affair, landing his own first round knockout stoppage.

On that same card, in a headlining bracket, former middleweight titleholder, Pereira landed a second Octagon title, winning the vacant light heavyweight crown with a second round TKO win over former champion, Jiri Prochazka.

However, amid links to a potential UFC 300 clash with Aspinall – with fans attempting to break down a cryptic ‘30+300=3’ post on the Brazilian’s official social media, Pereira insisted that while a heavyweight move is one he hopes to make, it will not come as swiftly as April.

And commenting on his own fighting future, Atherton native, Aspinall claimed that a fight with Pereira was off the cards as soon as April, posting “He wants to defend his 205 pound title, which I understand.” on his official X account

As far as his own next outing, Aspinall, who wants to remain busy amid the absence of fellow champion, Jon Jones through a pectoral tendon tear ahead of a November return against Stipe Miocic, has identified an interim title defense against either Jailton Almeida, or former-foe, Curtis Blaydes next – who both share the Octagon at UFC 299 in March.

Alex Pereira and his girlfriend spark rumors of a break-Up after unfollowing each other on Instagram

Alex Pereira

In the span of a year, Alex Pereira claimed both the UFC middleweight and light heavyweight world championships, establishing himself as one of the greatest fighters in the promotion’s 30-year history. Perhaps even more impressive is that ‘Poatan’ accomplished that feat after just seven fights in the UFC and 11 overall.

But not even one of combat sports’ most accomplished strikers is immune to the woes of love.

Days after touring The City of Love and pranking his girlfriend with a fake marriage proposal, the ‘Brazilian Boogeyman’ has appeared to cut ties with Merle, a TV presenter and interviewer at Fightology whom he once introduced as a “special person” during a romantic helicopter ride.

Per multiple reports, Pereira and Merle have unfollowed one another on Instagram, even going so far as to delete pictures of each other on their social media platforms. Merle’s profile once read, “Mrs. Poatan” but that is also long gone.

Neither party has formally announced or addressed the breakup, but the writing is clearly on the wall.

Is Alex Pereira Headed to UFC 300?

Alex Pereira’s latest bit of drama comes as rumors continue to swirl about his potential involvement with UFC 300 on April 13. ‘Poatan’ shared a cryptic message online that immediately had fans concluding he would seek a third world championship at the promotion’s next milestone event, though Pereira has since clarified that his confusing mathematical equation had nothing to do with the fight game.

“Well, [I] fought at middleweight and then [I] had to listen to [my] body to go up and fight at light heavyweight,” Alex Pereira told The Mac Life through an translator. “[I’m] a fighter, bro, [I’m] willing to fight. [I’ll] fight anybody, anywhere. But this kind of thing (a heavyweight move at UFC 300) – [I have] the height and [am] basically the size of a heavyweight.

“But this is the kind of thing that has to be programmed, put some work in, it’s not something to just jump in on an adventure like that,” Alex Pereira continued. “[I] want to make [the move] the right way. [I] can definitely fight at heavyweight – maybe someday for the future. But it’s gotta be something [that’s] well-planned. So, right now, [I’m] focused on [my] light heavyweight reign.”

Are you disappointed to hear that Alex Pereira won’t go for the heavyweight crown at UFC 300?
