The reports of Khabib Nurmagomedov signing with a football team are false.

It was recently announced by third-division Russian football team FC Legion Dynamo that they had signed the former UFC lightweight champion to a contract.

“A great battle awaits our Legion, for which we need great warriors,” the club posted with a picture of Nurmagomedov seemingly signing a contract. “Getting ready to host [Khabib Nurmagomedov] to our team.”

Nurmagomedov even liked the post from his official account.

However, as the news started to spread with many different outlets reporting it such as Reuters, MMA Junkie’s John Morgan decided to reach out to Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz to confirm if it was really the case.

And it turns out to be false.

“Tried to confirm this report of @TeamKhabib signing for a Russian soccer team with @AliAbdelaziz00. He said there was ‘absolutely no truth’ to the report and labeled it ‘completely fake news.’”

This shouldn’t be that surprising. It would be much bigger news if Nurmagomedov did actually change sports and sign with a professional football team.

And given his many ventures outside the Octagon, “The Eagle” probably wouldn’t even have the time to train, let alone play regularly for FC Legion Dynamo.

Nurmagomedov retired from mixed martial arts in October last year after submitted Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.

Islam Makhachev

Rafael dos Anjos claims Islam Makhachev has agreed to fight him in October but manager Ali Abdelaziz is pumping the brakes.

Makhachev has been calling for elite competition. Thus far, he has terrorized the lightweight division. Makhachev is riding an eight-fight winning streak and has just one loss in his pro MMA career. Makhachev is fresh off a submission finish over Thiago Moises. He is the number five-ranked UFC lightweight and many believe he’s got the fighting style to be dominant for many years to come.

It’s clear that dos Anjos is always on the hunt for the biggest fights he can get. The former UFC Lightweight Champion is used to fighting notable names and this time, he’s gunning for Makhachev. The Brazilian took to his Twitter account to claim that not only has Makhachev agreed to fight him, but Khabib Nurmagomedov will come out of retirement to avenge Makhachev should he lose.

“I just heard back from the UFC that Islam accepted to fight me Oct 30, 5 rounds in Abu Dhabi and Khabib agreed to come out of retirement to avenge his brother’s loss after that,” dos Anjos wrote on social media.

Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, poured cold water on the claim. Here’s what he told MMAFighting’s Damon Martin.

“Sean Shelby reached out about Islam fighting on Oct. 30 cause they value him in this region and I appreciate that. A couple names come up, Rafael’s name came up. Islam’s on the plane going to Russia. Islam is planning to fight in December. I told the UFC when Islam lands, I’ll call Sean Shelby back but it’s nothing else. Listen, I like Rafael. Got no problem with Rafael but he’s trying to catch some hype but whatever he’s saying it’s not true.

“Khabib’s name is not even on the list. The only thing I know is the last time they fought, Khabib beat him 30-26. That’s the only thing I remember from this fight. Khabib is retired and I think people should not talk about Khabib out of respect.”

Justin Gaethje’s Manager Says He Should Be Next For Title Shot

Justin GaethjeJustin Gaethje has been relatively dormant since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254, but his manager Ali Abdelaziz thinks that he should be next in line for the UFC lightweight title shot against Charles Oliveira, and not the recently victorious Dustin Poirier. Justin Gaethje

Justin Gaethje has been relatively dormant since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254, but his manager Ali Abdelaziz thinks that he should be next in line for the UFC lightweight title shot against Charles Oliveira, and not the recently victorious Dustin Poirier.

Gaethje has been reportedly waiting for the right opponent since falling to Khabib by submission in the second round last October and has been rumored to be the UFC’s target for a fight with Michael Chandler later this year. Negotiations are still relatively tranquil and no official announcements have been made for Gaethje’s 2021 debut.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Abdelaziz singled out his client, Gaethje when discussing who should be Oliveira’s first title defense as champion.

“I believe [Justin Gaethje] should be fighting [Charles Oliveira] next,” Abdelaziz said. “That’s what I believe. Dustin maybe needs to take a break, let these two guys handle (business). I know the UFC wants to make Chandler. On paper, it’s a great fight, but Mike Chandler doesn’t deserve anything. He needs to be quiet, sit down, and if Justin decides to fight him, he’ll let him know. But Mike Chandler doesn’t deserve anything.”

Chandler will make his broadcasting debut this weekend at UFC Vegas 31, while Poirier is fresh off his trilogy win over Conor McGregor at UFC 264. UFC president Dana White has tentatively said that Poirier and Oliveira will fight for the lightweight title later this year.

Gaethje fell to Poirier back in 2018 as “The Diamond” began to make his run through the UFC’s lightweight division. After that, he won four straight fights en route to the title shot which included an interim title win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 249.

The UFC lightweight title picture is perplexing, to say the least. Poirier will more than likely get the next shot, but you could definitely make the case for Gaethje given his fan-friendly style and popularity among the MMA community.
